I have four classes for four hours and John followed me around like a lost puppy all day. I didn't mind it much but the fact that he already has a girlfriend bothered me a little.
"After class, d'you wanna go down with me to the canteen?" He asked doodling on his notebook.
I steered away from my notes and looked at him.
"What about your Cyn?"
He shrugged. "She always leaves after her last class. Let me just say goodbye to her then we can go off together alright?"
I nodded. I guess it'd be alright. I mean it's not like were having an affair or anything. Just two people getting to know each other. Plus we didn't get much time to talk so this will be a perfect chance to really get to know him. He reminded me of the guys back home.
The bell finally rang and he stood up.
"You can go ahead. I've gotta speak to the teacher anyways." I said putting my notes in my bag. He nodded.
"Alright. You know where to meet me yeah?" I felt his hand brush against mine. It made my skin tingle.
"Yeah."
I watched as he walked off and exited the classroom. I sighed and got up walking to the teacher.
"Miss Daniels." He said clearing up the chalkboard.
"I was just wondering, why do I have to take Journalism? I mean I don't plan on being a journalist so I don't think I belong in this class."
I handed him the slip with my classes and he looked it over.
"Ah it's because of the course you chose. You can't just have one class you see."
"So it's like highschool just college wise?" I asked putting the slip back in my bag. He nodded.
"Yes."
I nodded. "Alright then. See you tomorrow."
I walked out of the classroom and down the hall. It was fairly empty now. I was walking until I heard two people talking. Arguing actually. I slowed down and peeked around the corner to see John and his girlfriend Cynthia.
"....and then you ignore me while passing classes to follow that bird all day."
"I'm sorry alright? I was just trying to be friendly. She doesn't mean anything to me."
I felt a little hurt.
"Yeah by the way you were looking at her it sure doesn't seem that way."
"Look, how about we leave together then? I can ditch her so we can go out to eat."
She looked down as he grabbed her hand.
"I suppose that'd be nice."
"That's my girl. Come on. Then i'll show you just how sorry I really am yeah?"
She giggled and intertwined her fingers with his as they walked together the opposite way from the cafeteria. Where we were supposed to meet up. I noticed him look back and then to her.
So he was just going to leave me there alone. She doesn't mean anything to me. I sighed. Why am I so upset? It's not like anything was going to happen anyways.
I walked along the hall by myself and out the door on my way home.
...
I walked out of the record shop with a few new records in my hands. I walked out to see John alone walking down the sidewalk. I groaned and hurriedly walked passed him.
"Oh hey Lucy!" He yelled running up to me. I stopped and looked up at him.
"What do you want John??" I asked a bit harshly. He looked at me and sighed.
"Look. I'm sorry I left you alone earlier..."
"No John you didn't."
"What?"
"I um...I saw you and your girl leave when I was walking down to meet you."
He nodded. "I should've told ye."
"It's fine. I'm used to it."
"What d'you mean?"
I looked down and shook my head. "Nothing. I'll see you tomorrow."
I began walking away as he caught up to me again. I smiled to myself as he walked next to me.
"Can I help you?" I asked.
"Look I know we didn't get to spend some time together alright. And I feel bad about it so maybe...we can meet up later?"
I stopped in my tracks.
"What about your girlfriend? Wouldn't want her thinking the wrong thing now."
"She won't 'av to know. Come on. I owe you."
I thought for a few seconds. He was just going to ditch me earlier and now he wants to spend time with me? Maybe he just wants to get in my pants. Or maybe he feels guilty and really does want to get to know me. I looked up at his hopeful eyes.
"So?" He asked pouting. I giggled and shook my head.
"Fine Lennon."
A huge grin appeared on his face. I grabbed his hand and wrote my number and address on his hand. He raised his eyebrows.
"Wow. A girl never gave me her number before. That's very forward."
"Yeah? We girls in America do it all the time. You better get used to it Lennon." I smirked tapping the tip of his nose with my finger. He looked at me completely in awe as I turned on my heel and made my way home.
