Mijoo couldn't stop it.
She couldn't stop this feeling. It started two years ago.
She remembered vomiting red petals. She remembered the pain in her throat. The feeling of petals pouring out of her mouth.
She remembered crying endlessly, realizing that he didn't love her back.
Now, she sat there in front of the toilet bowl, letting the bloody red petals to pour out. She hates this. She wanted to stop this feeling, but she couldn't.
She considered undergoing surgery, but she just wanted to wait because she still hoped that he will return her feelings.
When it was finally over, she stood up slowly to get away from there. Upon arriving in her kitchen, she suddenly heard the doorbell buzzing.
"Coming!"
Mijoo wondered who the hell would stop by in her apartment in this time. It was 11:40 pm. She opened her door, not expecting the person who'd greet her.
"What the hell, Hoseok?"
Yeah, she realized that the only person who would go to her apartment at this damn hour was him. Her best friend.
Hoseok laughed and hugged her as a greeting. "What? Is it bad that I wanted to visit my beautiful best friend?"
Mijoo blushed at his words, "Oh shut up. You just wanted to eat all my food."
"Maybe," he said, grinning.
"Why are you so happy today? Did something happen?" she carefully asked. Please, no.
Hoseok chuckled at her questions, "What? I'm happy everyday."
Mijoo narrowed her eyes at him. Hoseok sighed happily and grinned at her.
"Okay, okay. I'm finally taking Junhee on a date! Can you believe it?" Hoseok happily declared. Mijoo stilled upon hearing his words.
Well, fuck, I can't believe it.
Then, she felt it. She felt the familiar pain in her throat. In her chest. The petals wanting to break free. But, she needed to not let it out in front of him. He shouldn't know.
Just a little time.
Hoseok continued sharing the details of his love life, not even noticing Mijoo's discomfort. Mijoo was silent throughout his story, trying not to throw up, trying to digest the fact that the man she loved would never love her back.
The said man finally noticed her silence. He looked at her worriedly, "Mijoo? Are you okay?"
Mijoo looked up at him and smiled shakily, "Y-Yes, I'm fine. I'm probably just tired."
Hoseok didn't buy her bullshit, but he nodded. "Guess, I'll have to go now. You need to rest."
Mijoo felt the pain unbearable. She closed her eyes to calm her nerves.
"Oh, by the way, Junhee wanted to meet you. You know, since you're my best friend. Are you good with that?" Hoseok hesitantly asked. Mijoo just nodded and offered him a small smile.
It's coming. Oh shit. Please, no!
"Well, I'm gonna head out no―"
There, she threw up all the red petals. In front of him. The man she was in love with.
Hoseok froze, watching her throw up the petals that signified her love for him. Mijoo felt tears stinging her eyes.
"H-Hoseok..I―"
"Are you in love with me?" Hoseok asked, eyeing the petals on the ground.
Mijoo sighed, staring the ground, nodded slowly. "For years now."
"Why didn't you tell me?" he asked softly.
Mijoo couldn't help but cry. "I don't want to lose you."
"You―"
"No. It would still be the same. Whether I tell you or not, it would still be the same. You would still see me as your best friend. Not the woman you love," she told him, looking at him in the eye. Hoseok shook his head.
"No, you don't―"
"Please leave."
"Mijoo―"
"Please, I can't take it anymore," she finally said, tears pouring out of her eyes.
