I jerk awake and observe my surrounds.
"Oh... it wasn't a dream..." I say.
"I wish..." Jai replies.
"Jai, have you slept at all?" I ask him noticing he's still looking at ariana and holding her hand.
"No." He says weakly.
"Jai you need sleep." I tell him.
"No. Not until she wakes up." He says.
"I'll watch her while you sleep." I insist.
"No." He says.
I give up.
A few minutes later Ariana's phone rings. I didn't even realize it was in the room.
"Get it." Jai tells me.
I grab her phone. The caller ID says "Dr Jones"
Oh great... this bitch...
"Jai it's Dr Jones I can't answer." I tell him.
"Shit." He whispers finally moving.
He lays Ariana's hand over her tummy and I hand him Ariana's phone.
"Hello?" He says.
I hear mumbling on the other line.
"No she's not."
...
"No she got in a car accident"
...
"I'm not making things up!"
...
"Can't this just wait until Ariana wakes up?!"
Jai's voice is getting louder and angrier.
...
"No."
...
"No! Ariana is her mom and you're not gonna take her away during this time!"
...
"But -"
...
"Fuck you!" Jai says hanging up the phone.
"Yeah wish I could've said that to her yesterday." I tell him.
"Amelia, there's a social worker on her way to pick you up." Jai tells me.
"Excuse me?" I say.
"Yeah... they won't let you say... I find it fucking ridiculous. They're treating this like a joke." He tells me.
"I'm not going." I tell him.
"Amelia it's not a choice. Ariana's gonna be okay. She wants you to get better. You have to go." He says.
"No. I'm not leaving her." I say.
Suddenly a lady comes in. It's not a nurse. She's dressed formally.
"Are you Amelia?" She says.
"Yes. What do you want?" I ask rudely.
"Come on. You need to come with me." She says.
"No I don't even know you." I say.
"I'm bringing you to the eating disorder center." She tells me.
"Oh well in that case... hell no!" I say refusing.
"Amelia -"
"No don't you 'Amelia' me. You don't even know me." I say, taking a seat next to Jai.
