"Two packs of your Ube Hopia, please, the special kind." said Maribeth's suki.
"Sir, you must really love my Hopia, you're always buying the same thing!" she replied to the man clad in a business suit. "Is ube really your favorite?"
"Haha," the guy laughed, making the young vendor blush. "Not just mine, but my wife's as well."
Her eyes glance down at the golden band around the man's ring finger.
"Your wife is so lucky!" she said with a seductive smile on her face. "Sir...?"
"Rodel." the guy answered. "She's been bedridden for two years now, but she loves the hopia from this store."
"You're so sweet, not to mention, good looking." her smile widens.
Rodel smiles back and gives her the payment for the hopia before walking away.
Maribeth has been selling Rodel hopia for more than a year now. He always comes at the same time and buys the same thing everyday. But what Maribeth looks forward to the most, is the seductive smile in Rodel's handsome face that is always ready to greet her. She loves to think that her customer's smile was directed only at her. Specially for her.
The next day, Mr. Rodel comes at the same time to buy the same Ube Hopia.
"Two packs of your Ube Hopia, please," he says.
"The 'special kind', right?" she gives her customer a sweet smile.
"I guess you already know me that well." Rodel returns it with a charming smile of his own.
Maribeth's heart skipped a beat.
She wore new clothes today, had her hair set up, and even wore some cologne, just to catch his attention.
"Here's your change, Mr. Rodel." she said as she leans over, noting that her customer was staring at her ample bosom. She smiled and fluttered her lashes at him.
"T-thank you..." Mr. Rodel said, looking a bit flustered. He hurriedly took the hopia and left.
"Wait!" Maribeth ran after him, "You left your change!" she made sure their hands touched as she gave him the coins.
"Oh... um... thank you." Mr. Rodel replied, his face turning red.
"I'll be waiting for you tomorrow!" she said, gently squeezing his arm.
She was placing more Hopia on display, when she noticed the wallet on the floor.
"Mr. Rodel's wallet!" thought Maribeth. "Did he deliberately leave it behind?" she quickly opened it.
It belonged to Mr. Rodel Montero, alright. There were several ID cards inside it, including his licence and some credit cards, but what caught her eye was a wedding picture of Rodel and his wife – a dark, flat nosed, fat woman who looked much older than him. They both looked happy in the picture, but all Maribeth saw, was an ugly woman next to her Rodel.
