As they wandered through the forest, the silence was almost, unsettling. Like the trees themselves were holding their breaths. Sophie and Linh walked this path pretty often, to think about...about Tam. He agreed to Lady Gisela's deal of joining the Neverseen to save the alicorns and keep Linh safe, and they never forgot. Help. A voice whispered. But Linh didn't flinch, when the voice repeated itself Sophie knew it was someone's mental voice. help. "Care to fill me in?" Linh asked.
"I heard someone's mental voice send out a plea so I am tracking it." Sophie explained.
"But the thoughts are so weak, I'm not sure how long we have until..." She couldn't make herself finish, but when Linh turned away it was clear she got the message.
Sophie could tell the creature who made the plea was getting closer, and she braced herself running through possible ideas of what awaited them. But when she finally arrived, she was not ready for what was waiting.
