Sophie gave herself a brief moment to take in a sharp inhale and then darted to his side.
She rolled him onto his back, praying he wasn't… nope. She could not go there. She had a moment where she almost forgot who she was looking at. His face was so scared and bruised. But the fresh streaks of dark red blood were the worst. He had angry wounds surrounding his face and neck. They also covered his arms and by the blood stains on his torn tunic she assumed his chest and back were in the same state.

Some of them had started to form scabs, meaning he must have had them for a while. The biggest gash ran from a patch of skin hidden by his long bangs, over his right grey-blue eye and down his cheek to the corner of his mouth. She pressed her hands to his wrist, and released a breath she didn't realize what she was holding. She felt his pulse. It was faint, but it was there. The shock and worry had faded so she could now see his chest rising and falling, shallowly and jaggedly, but he was still drawing breath.

"No." Linh breathed behind them. Sophie whipped her head around to see the heartbroken twin on her knees, with tears streaming down her face. "Is he….." She begged, and her eyes were overflowing with unshed tears.

"No." Sophie replied, trying to soften the remorse in her voice, but failing miserably.  She let out a shaky exhale. "Can you hail Elwin and tell him to be ready for us?" The sadness and fear in Linh's eyes explained what she was thinking and she rose to grab her imparter. But before reaching into her cape pocket she froze mid-motion.

"I don't have a crystal to Foxfire." Linh whispered. Sophie shook her head, not letting her grip leave Tam's wrist.

"I'm not sure he would even be strong enough for a leap." Sophie admitted. " I saw some cliffs through a thinner patch of trees a little farther back. They should be tall enough to teleport." Linh took a deep breath then turned away to hail Elwin. Sophie stretched out her conscience to make sure he was still there. Even though it wasn't much, she felt a whisper of a word blow across his mind.

Please. Somehow even his mind sounded hoarse, and Sophie tried not imagine what that meant.

We’re here Tam. Just stay with me. She begged, feeling his mind being tugged by the warmth of death. She knew how it felt, because she had experienced it more then anyone her age should. More than anyone should. Please. You waited this long, just hang in there a little longer. The transmission was drenched in desperation, and she could feel Tam trying, but the pull was still too strong.  You're stronger than this, so you HAVE to stay strong. For Linh. That was all he needed. A burst of strength banished the pull, or most of it at least. Sophie let a sigh out and felt a hand on her shoulder. She turned to find Linh standing behind her. No words came out of Linh's mouth, but her expression said it all. Sophie gave a firm nod and stood up with Tam in her arms.

Even though she used telekinesis to hold most of his weight with her mind, he was still decently heavy. The two girls walked toward the cliffs Sophie had seen and stopped as they reached the edge. They turned to each other and silent words were passed, words of worry and fear but most importantly hope. Linh grabbed Sophie's hand and kept them intertwined under Tam's head. Linh led them off by pulling Sophie's hand forward, then the plunge began. Just before they were about to splatter into three corpses onto the field below, Sophie tore a crack into the sky. She imagined the entrance to her academy and another clap of thunder pulled them into Foxfire.
