Hey guys! Hope you're having a good day. I had a snow day, so pretty uneventful. I cant wait to post some of the upcoming chapters. I now understand the evilness Shannon feels about planting secrets into the plot as she goes. It's great. Anyways, this chapter is a bit longer. Because cut offs are hard to find. It's also kinda sorta maybe a little bit cringey, and I'm sorry. I didnt mean for it to be cringey, but as I was reading over it today I kinda realized it was. Oops. Oh well. I dont really have the time to fix it, so hopefully you like it anyways! Again: I'm sorry in advance for the cringe.
Ok...
Enjoy!

She woke up before him, but that was no surprise. Besides, she was glad to see him rest; he looked kinda cute when he was sleeping. Sophie let go of his hand and gently placed it on his lap, careful not to wake him. She reached over and felt his forehead, relieved to find it not as hot as it had been when they had fallen asleep. Sophie pulled her imparter out of her pocket and called Biana, letting her know what had happened and to meet them at the doors of Everglen when they got back so she could hand Fitz over to his sister.
After they concluded their conversation she hung up and slipped the imparter back into her pocket. She wracked her brain for an explanation of what could have happened to him, and quite possibly was still happening. She debated going to the healing center and ask Livvy or Elwin to come check him over, but thought better of it. Or at least decided to wait to make a decision until after he was awake, that way she could better judge how well he seemed. She got lost in her thoughts, and after who knows how long someone said her name. She snapped out of it and looked over to see Fitz smiling at her.
"Hey Fitz," She grinned back. "Your fever has improved, do you feel any better?"
"Yeah, definitely." His slightly pained expression made it harder for her to believe, but she shook it off, glad he wasn't feeling as ill.
"That's good."
"What was wrong with me?"
"I'm no Elwin, but from what I do know it looks like a combination of dehydration and exhaustion. As weird as it sounds I'm glad your symptoms showed when they did. I know you'll disagree," She added when he opened his mouth to argue. "But this option is way better than you Leaping in that condition and risking fading. By the way, I'm not sure it's 'was wrong with me'. It's more likely 'is'. I'm glad you're feeling better but you still aren't fully recovered."
"Alright then doc, what do I do now?" He asked in a teasing tone that made her giggle.
"Rest, drink lots of water, and take it easy. But, again, I'm no physician. Maybe we should have Elwin or Livvy come check you over. " Her tone matched a question, but she was really hoping he would make the wise choice here. If not she silently promised herself she would only go get one of them if he collapsed or something again. To her dismay, he shook his head.
"I don't want to take them away from Tam, I'll just do what you told me and hope for the best." He looked at her as if questioning for a response, she simply shrugged.
"Okay. But can you promise me that if you don't feel better by tomorrow you'll ask them to check you over?"
"Would that make you feel better?" She nodded in response. "Then yes, I will. I promise."
"Thanks." She smiled.
"Sophie?" He asked, regaining her attention. "Do you know why? Why I have those, problems?" He asked, and she was slightly surprised about why he hadn't just said what was wrong. It wasn't life threatening, not at this point in time anyway. She thought for a second, the dehydration was apparent, but she had no clue about the exhaustion. Then it hit her like a ton of bricks. "Hey, you okay? You look like you've seen a ghost." He asked, leaning toward her.
"Yeah. Yeah I'm fine." She answered, straightening up. "The Dehydration is pretty simple, it's most likely that you haven't been taking in as much fluid as you've been putting out. For the exhaustion..." She cleared the lump that had magically appeared in her throat. "I think that's from me inflicting on you." She felt tears brim her eyes, but refused to let them go any farther. He put his hand on her upper arm and gave her a kind squeeze, smiling a soft smile when she looked over at him.
"Hey, we both know you didn't do it on purpose. It's okay, alright? I promise it's not your fault."
"I've never seen the aftermath of me negatively inflicting on someone, and...this makes sense. The inflicting put so much strain on your nerves, it drained all of your energy, and now...this is what happens. I'm so sorry Fitz. It's my fault." She had reached up to tug at her eyelashes, but Fitz grabbed her hand and stopped her mid-motion.
"Seriously, I promise I'm not mad at you or blaming you. It's not your fault. I know you said I'm still recovering, but I'll be fine. So take a deep breath, and calm down. Okay? Just relax." After a few more minutes of Fitz calming her down and several more deep breaths she finally got herself together.
"Thanks." She whispered ro Fitz after regaining her composure.
"Anytime." He smiled his perfect smile. After considering her idea for a moment, Sophie stood up and offered Fitz a hand.
"You think you're ready to try to stand?"
