Remember: murder is illegal.
I'm sorry for not updating in so long guys. I feel like such a crappy author. I know I should have more time with all this quarintene stuff, but I have a lot of other things I work on along with this fic. I'm still trying to balance it all. It's a lot easier without having to stress about state testing (it was canceled due to all the covid-19 stuff so TAKE THAT EOC), but it's still a challenge. In good news I've had more time to write and get the rest of the storyline set out :). Its about to get interesting for yall, and I'll need your options on a few things. I'll tell you more about that later though, so be sure to keep an eye on the announcements on my page and to keep reading these authors notes (if anyone does that in the first place, lol). Anyways, I'm sorry again for not updating in so long. I'm doing my best to get better with it. I hope all of you are doing good! Keep washing your hands and have a good time in quarintene! And, as always, Enjoy!

“Then why didn’t it hurt me like last time? When Umber...” Sophie asked, but she couldn’t get herself to finish the sentence.

“I think I can answer that,” Tam responded, cutting Fitz off. Fitz managed a small smile and gestured for him to continue. “It didn’t hurt you, because that wasn’t it’s original objective. All it was trying to do was protect me, so that’s still it’s intention.”

Fitz nodded, “Yup. The reason why it hurt us with Umber’s attack is because that’s what it was sent to do. Umber used her shadow flux to hurt us, that was the goal, but that wasn’t the goal for Tam’s. All his was trying to do was protect him, and that’s still what it’s doing.”

“So...this is, what? Good shadow flux?”

“No such thing,” Tam shook his head. “Shadowflux isn’t good or bad. It’s whatever it is commanded to be.”

“And the shadowflux that’s still a part of you isn’t good, necessarily. But it’s not exactly bad, either,” Fitz agreed.

“Ok, but how does that explain why I went unconscious when Tam did?”

“Hold on, what?” Tam said, looking between Sophie and Fitz.

“Oh, yeah. We didn’t tell you. Sorry,” Sophie responded, feeling shame burn at her face.“When you passed out, I did too.”

“So, what are you saying? That we’re... linked?”

“In a very condensed answer, yes,” Fitz looked like he had never thought of describing it like that. “Yeah. You and Sophie are linked. Via the shadow flux. The shadow flux that stuck with her is still connected to you. It is still trying to protect you. So, if something major happens to you, her shadowflux will react to it.”

“Let me get this straight,” Sophie said, trying to suppress a headache. “If something happens to Tam, it happens to me too?”

“Yes and No. The shadowflux that you still have is just a reaction, a reflection, of whatever happens to him. It will never be as severe for you as it is for him, but it will affect you nonetheless.”

“That explains what happened at Everglen. Tam and Wylie mentioned that they were going to try a few new ideas Wylie had about their abilities. They must’ve gone too far, and strained themselves. Or, at least Tam did. Then he was sedated…” Sophie slowly looked over at Tam. He had his eyebrows scrunched together, wearing a sorry and slightly concerned expression.

“That hurt you?” He asked, a bit of guilt in his tone. Biana then rubbed his arm and whispered something in his ear. Whatever she said softened his expression and made him look at her and smile.
