“Show me Tam Song” She whispered. The image in the Spyball swirled and turned an inky black, then somethingsomething sharp nicked at her mind. Causing her to yelp despite herself and drop the glass sphere into her lap while her hands darted to her head. As soon as the Spyball cleared the pain vanished, but not a second before. Sophie wrapped the Spyball up in it’s cloth and put it back in it’s hiding spot before she could tempt herself with stupidly trying again. Not sure what else to do, she reached her mind out to ask the only person for help she could think to ask.
Fitz? She transmitted Are you still awake?
Yeah, whats up Sophie? He responded, though his transmission felt a bit groggy.
I’m sorry, did I wake you up?
Not at all. What’s wrong?
    Noth-
Nope, something has to be wrong for you to be acting like this. The only time you transmit to me after dark is when something is wrong. I know you, please?
Fine. Do you remember my spyball? The one the Black Swan gave me?
Yeah, it’s not the easiest thing to forget. Why?
I was checking on my human family, and then I was gonna go to sleep, but for some reason I had the urge to check on Tam too.
Is he okay?
He’s fine, as far as I know. But there was some kind of interference when I searched for him.
How so?
Well, the SpyBall turned black, like ink. And,
And?
It’s probably no big deal… I shouldn’t have brought this up
Sophie…
Fine. Something started hurting in my head, like a dagger being pressed against my brain. At this point, I’m not sure if I can keep telling myself it’s just a coincidence.
It’s definitely not a coincidence, His transmission started to trail off. But not with sleep, more like with something being withheld.
What aren’t you telling me?
Nothing, Ju-
Fitz, I know you too. What aren’t you telling me?
Well, His mental voice practically sighed. Do you remember when you collapsed at my house the other day?
Yes…
I’ve been doing some research on stuff like that that have happened before, and, that fits the description of one of the possible leads.
What do you mean? What’s the lead?
I don’t know enough to explain yet, but I promise I’ll let you know as soon as I do.
Fine.
Come on Sophie, don't be mad at me. I will tell you everything as soon as I know for myself. Okay?
Okay.
Good. Now get some sleep, you've seemed tired lately. Is the lullaby still working?
It's been working perfectly, I've just been...preoccupied.
What with?
Nothing.
What'd I say earlier?
Fine, I've been getting most of my work done in the night.
Is everything alright?
Yeah, it's fine. Why do you ask?
I don't know, your transmissions have just had a different feel to them tonight. Sharper, I guess. Neither of them transmitted for a minute, both thinking. Get some sleep, you really need the rest. Do you want to meet up tomorrow?
Sounds great.
Goodnight. He tried to transmit something else, but the words fell through and the connection felt heavier. If nothing else she learned one thing, if you don't cut off a transmission  and someone falls asleep: they snore-transmit. As if on cue, the lullaby started playing in her head. Next thing she knew she had let herself fall asleep listening to the melody.
