week later...
"Hello."
I look over my shoulder, seeing a black man grinning down at me. Raising my eyebrow I go back to what I was doing until the guy was right beside me. Helping me get bricks that we were going to cement together to make a better, foundational school for the kids.
"You can't do this yourself, can you?"
"I'm doing it by myself aren't I?" I sneer, the guy chuckling.
"Yeah, I see that. Not bad to ask for help. Over here picking up bricks with no help. You caught my eye and I wanted to help."
I frown, standing up straight as I held bricks in my hand. The guy standing up straight as well and he was a little shorter than Gideon. Not as attractive but he was good looking I guess. I even think I'm more attractive than him.
"I caught your eye?" I purse my lips as I begin walking." Why's that?"
"You were so dedicated and really care for these kids. You also have a bond with them that I've never seen. Can't get any of them to have a normal conversation, it's like they dislike me." He explained, chuckling awkwardly and I chuckle too.
"Just have to give them time. When I met them it's not like they were running at me."
"That's exactly what they did! What are you talking about?!" He exclaimed, and I laugh.
"Just trying to make you feel better."
We both set down the bricks and end up heading back to get more. Not sure why it was way easier to have a conversation with him, but it was nice. Felt way easier than with Gideon.
"You can make me feel better if you come with me to get lunch."
I flinch, wondering why I didn't see this coming. Sounded exactly like a date and Gideon would probably not like if I did this... Am not attracted to this guy one bit, but Gideon could understand what I feel these days...
"Lunch? With you?" I repeat, his eyes diverting." Why would I do that?"
"Because you want a cool guy to talk to and eat with." He mused, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly. But soon he smiled and I grinned.
"Fine. I'm down."
"Awesome. We go on break in ten. So...want to keep getting bricks?"
"Sure." I smile, and we continue to do the same thing. Learning more about this guy than I was Gideon. That's saying something! Didn't know his name, but I never did ask..." What's your name?"
He smirked, causing me to look away from him.
"Shawn."
I nod at Shawn, intrigued because his name didn't fit him at all.
"Damian."
"I know that."
I narrow my eyes at him, confused at how he'd know that.
"How do you know that?"
"We work in the same association. I've heard your name be screamed by the kids. Hard not to know." He states obviously, and I smile.
When we got the last stack of bricks I saw Gideon watching me. It was weird because he looked annoyed. But I was enjoying the fact that he saw me with another guy. Now he knows what it feels like to see me with someone else and not know what you'll do.
Even though I have no attraction towards the guy, still! This is all a game to me and I'm having fun.
The best part, the guy didn't seem to know that I was married to that freak. Good, or I couldn't use him in this petty plan of mine.
