The dancing went on for hours it seemed. Honey had a long line of brothers who wanted a turn with her, and none of them minded that they had to share the dance with the next. As happy as Honey was, she was still easily winded and they weren't sure how long she would be able to keep up with the party. The only one who got a song to themselves was Fred, as it was their first dance as a married couple. Sirius and Arthur split a song for their traditional dances, and each brother as well.
Percy, though he sat in the back and refused to speak to anyone, attended the ceremony, which meant more to the couple than they cared to admit. The brothers were angry with him but knew better than to approach him and start a problem. They didn't think he would stay for the party, but he did, dancing with Honey for her third brother dance as he was her third new brother. She was the only one he spoke too, and he told her that he was sorry for the way he acted, but it was too late for him to leave. He was putting himself at risk by going to the event, but he had to see her and congratulate her in case he didn't see her again before the sickness took her. She understood, and thanked him for coming to see her- she was glad that they got to stay goodbyes because she too was worried that they wouldn't have time.
Her dance with George was the one that everyone was worried about. They didn't understand that George understood her illness better than they did, and he knew how much she could take. With that being said, he wasn't soft with her like the others were. He danced wild with her like he always did, making her laugh happily while Molly watched fearfully from the side. Ron was an awful dancer, but they spoke while they did, and she wished him luck on the journey he was sure to take.
After all the traditional dances were over, even the one between Fred and Luna where he performed many of her silly moves, George grabbed everyone's attention and stood on the makeshift stage with a grin. He wanted to give his speech while she was still feeling well enough to listen.
"As the best man, it is my duty to give a speech. I was never worried about writing it because I'd had practice writing it since we'd met Honey. Fred didn't think it was funny then, but I was right all along when I said this would happen," He said, trying to keep his voice even when he spoke. "I remember we all use to tease Fred about his crush, and he used to get really embarrassed about it and try to deny it and turn red and it was funny, and I remember that suddenly it didn't bother him anymore when we talked about it. Later I found out that it was because it was actually true and he was tired of fighting it. "
Everyone listened to him talk attentively, Honey and Fred sitting down together at one of the tables to watch. He addressed his speech to the crowd, he was telling him his version of the story and he wanted to do it right.
"Fred never told me had a crush on her, ever. It wasn't something that we talked about because he never brought it up and I didn't want to push him. As time went on his heart eyes became such a normal thing that it was almost overlooked, until I realized they had been seeing each other, kind of, without anyone knowing except Charlie," He said the last part loudly, sending a joking look their way. "Biggest fight the two of us ever had was when I found out. It was the first time that Fred told me anything regarding his feelings for her, and it came with him yelling at me that he loved her and that she knew it even though he never said. My argument was that it didn't matter and he needed to say it, and I was right. He knew I was right but that didn't mean he acted on it."
"So the story goes like this, he asked her to be his date for the Yule Ball and they started dating officially, but he still never told her he was head over heels for her. I mean I still don't know why it took them so long to get together when all this had happened and they knew and we knew and all wanted for it to happen. A couple of months later was when we found out she was sick, and that it was bad. Fred finally confessed and made sure she knew that none of us were giving up on her, and we aren't. For a long time, I was worried, mostly about Fred, and I still am, but it was because I was scared that they wouldn't have enough time to do all the things they deserved with each other because they took so long to get together in the first place! See, if they had gotten together say the first time they kissed, they would have been married ages ago. The moral of the story is that..."
George trailed off because a soft blue light had entered the room and stood in the middle of the dance floor. It took the shape of a Patronus the members of the order recognized as Kingsley Shacklebolts. Kinglseys voice echoed throughout the room, deep and dark, with words they hoped that they would never in a million years hear. The room seemed to freeze solid, as it opened its mouth to spread the terrifying message.
"The Ministry has fallen. Scrimgeour is dead. They are coming."
Authors note:
Updates will be very slow if you haven't guessed. If you follow my account, which I would recommend as I send out frequent updates, you would have seen the message I put out a few weeks ago with my reasoning behind my slowness. The story is getting really close to an ending, and I have only been able to narrow it down to four different scenarios to finish it off with and choosing one is next to impossible to do. It's gotten to the point where to continue writing, I need to choose one, hence the continuation of the wedding I hadn't planned to let take up a whole chapter! Thank you all for reading and please comment your thoughts and also...
How the hell should I end this?
