Taehyung had been apprehensive in meeting the young master of the Jeon household. He had heard of many rumours among the townsfolk that the young master was a cripple bound to a wheelchair, cooped up in his grand mansion, never even travelling out of his own house.
Other stories pegged Jung-kook as a diseased-ridden boy, and as protection had to be quarantined with only a select few being able to see him.
Taehyung didn't get the chance to verify the gossip because he was terrified of the Jeon Matriarch, who occasionally looked at him with judging eyes if she ever spared him a glance. Thus, he never ventured close to the sinister-looking manor even to take a glimpse.
Taehyung also deemed himself an odd little boy because his features differed from those who lived in the town. His hair colour was light whereas others were dark; his eyes, a deep coral blue while most were ashy brown. Waegukin, they often called him. Foreigner.
He looked like an alien, so he acted like one. So when he learned about the crippled young master, Taehyung didn't think his plight was as bad because at least, he could still move around freely. And the rumours about him not as rabid and malicious as that of Jung-kook's.
So imagine the surprise Taehyung felt when he saw the young master in the flesh. Jung-kook seemed to be fine where he stood, although bare-footed. He didn't appear to be invalid or his face pocked-marked, as some suggested. And when Jung-kook shifted his glance downwards revealing long, dark lashes, Taehyung just stared at the beautiful lad.
He became grateful when the boy with the jet-black hair extended his hand. Taehyung briefly admired the olive skin before squeezing it with his calloused one. He realized his grip was a bit too strong when he noticed Jung-kook flinch.
Quickly, Taehyung released his grasp, afraid that he had offended the young master. His fears were soon assuaged when the latter flashed a toothy grin. Taehyung had an inkling then that this would be the start of a beautiful friendship.
Little did Taehyung know that it would also be short-lived.
