Jung-kook never saw them again.

The withering of leaves and the waning of seasons were all he noticed, that not even the times when the flowers bloomed were a cause of joyous celebration. The gray hair on his scalp became silver, and the creases on his forehead more pronounced.

Jung-kook paid no mind to the bustling of the city, despite his regular walks towards a familiar structure. He had moved here from the farm years ago, when there was no longer any reason to bind him to his ancestral home. He wanted to rid of the oppressive atmosphere belonging to it, like trying to escape a ghost chasing his tail.

Sae-ron, God love her, followed him despite his protestations to the contrary.

"Please leave me, go find somebody else," Jung-kook had said.

"Are you kicking me out?"

"Yes. Do something with your life. Go on a trip. Go study. Go get married."

"Are you proposing?"

"Sae-ron, I'm serious."

"And so am I! Who will marry a spinster?"

"I gave you some money. You could pay someone to do so."

"Haha. I'm not that desperate, Jung-kook," Sae-ron said with familiarity, after having dropped the employer-employee relationship a long time ago. The servile attitude she now possessed was more out of indebtedness and friendship than anything else.

"But I am, Sae-ron. I want to do this alone." A sigh escaped Jung-kook's cracked lips.

"You don't have to," the woman replied. "I can do the chores while you go to teach. I take care of the house so you have time to spend with your students, one in particular."

Jung-kook smiled at the suggestion. Sae-ron's right. He needed the help, especially in dealing with a teenage boy who was growing up too fast, he deemed, when he recalled not long ago, the small child asking him where peach blossoms grew.
