Mrs. Jeon was enjoying an afternoon cup of jasmine tea and reading the Financial Times when a servant approached her sitting on the sofa.
"Excuse me, ma'am," the housekeeper interrupted. "There's a guest here to see you."
"Who is it?" Mrs. Jeon asked, looking up from her newspaper.
"It's Mrs. Shin," the maid replied, "and she has something important to tell you."
"Well, I guess you can let her in," Mrs. Jeon said.
Mrs. Shin entered the grand hall of the Jeon household with slow and careful steps as she looked around the fine tapestries that adorned some walls. She spotted a double-winding staircase at the centre leading to majestic quarters.
Mrs. Jeon cleared her throat and stared at the lady who did not even try to hide her adoration for the wealth presented before her.
"Mrs. Shin, I am Mrs. Jeon, the matriarch of this household," Mrs. Shin announced, her authoritative tone catching the approaching woman off guard.
"Oh hello, Mrs. Jeon," Mrs. Shin said, as she sat down on one of the love seats.
Jung-kook's mother glared at the old hag whose colourful garb screamed attention and whose audacity confounded her.
"To what do I owe this pleasure," Mrs. Jeon queried, "that you've come all the way from...."
"Oh, oh, it was no bother, I enjoy travelling around the city and meeting new people, it is just so relaxing, you see, and I could not help but notice that you have a beautiful house," Mrs. Shin said without pausing for a breath.
"Is that what you came to tell me?" Mrs. Jeon raised her eyebrows as if to mock the talkative woman.
"Oh, certainly not, but aren't you going to offer me some tea, perhaps?" Mrs. Shin asked bravely.
"I was thinking maybe you have somewhere else to go after you imparted your business," Mrs. Jeon said, feigning graciousness.
"Ah, it's not exactly about business that I came for a visit," Mrs. Shin said, looking now at the other woman with a twinkle in her eye.
"If it's not for business, then what is it?" Mrs. Jeon impatiently asked.
"It's about your son," Mrs. Shin said with a smile.
"What about Jung-kook?" his mother inquired with hesitation.
Mrs. Shin wore a smug expression on her face as she responded, "Well.... why don't we talk about this over a cup of tea?"
