1995, Present Day

"So, is this your final decision?" Jung-kook asked Eun-hye over the phone, the only form of communication she had granted him. Attempts at a face-to-face reconciliation with his daughter were fruitless.

"Yes," Eun-hye said, dropping the endearment she used to call her father.

Jung-kook had a sense of déjà vu. Min-A replied similarly when she told him she was leaving him for another man, who was apparently more supportive than he could ever be as a husband. He had let her go easily, as the energy he consumed in fighting against her would be better utilized somewhere else.

Would it be wise to argue with his stubborn daughter, or go along with her wishes? He was determining the answer to this question when Eun-hye's voice interrupted his reverie.

"I'm sorry," Eun-hye started. "I apologize that it has come to this, but I just can't right now. Can you please give me time, Dad?"

Jung-kook smiled. There's still a chance for amendment with his daughter. "Take as much time as you need, but hopefully not for too long."

"Thanks, Daddy," Eun-hye sighed. "You know I'm only doing this because of Grandma, and until you decide, I better get myself out of the picture."

"You didn't have to," Jung-kook pleaded. "But I respect your decision."

"Don't worry, Dad," Eun-hye said, a tear rolling down her cheek. "I'll be home soon."

The call ended and Eun-hye looked towards the person she loved sitting on the couch.

"So how did your father take it?" Alex questioned, closing the book he was reading.

The woman's lips quivered as she sat beside the man whose outstretched arms were ready for an embrace.

"He wasn't happy about it, but he'll be okay," Eun-hye suggested.

"But are you going to be okay?"

Eun-hye mustered a smile. "Yes, when I'm with you, I will be."

Alex rolled his eyes and placed a quick peck on his fiancee's lips. "I think it's still too early for cheese."
