"So, whose turn is it to change nappies?" Jimin pondered out loud, throwing the question up in the air

"So, whose turn is it to change nappies?" Jimin pondered out loud, throwing the question up in the air.

"Certainly not mine! I can't even change my own." Taehyung quipped and pointed to his wheelchair.

"Yeah, yeah, you two," Alex responded as he stood up. "And since I don't breastfeed, I guess that would be me."

"Quit whining, Alex," Jimin reprimanded. "You know you love it."

Alex chuckled, picking up a clean diaper and some baby wipes on his way to the bassinet where his son Taemin laid. What his dad said wasn't wrong: Alex couldn't deny the fondness surging through his veins as he looked down on his newborn, whose eyes resembled Eun-hye's.

The childbirth didn't drag long as he feared; his wife was able to endure the pain despite the absence of an epidural. Eun-hye refused the analgesia as she was more afraid of being paralyzed. But her worries came from old wives' cautionary tales rather than proven medical statistics. Despite this, she wasn't about to take the risk. She will do everything for her child, even if that meant going through endless hours of labour.

Right now, Eun-hye was cooped up in her room "sitting the month out" or Samchilil, the tradition of postpartum confinement practiced by many new mothers in Asia. Not that Eun-hye's current family dynamic can be called as 'traditional,' but she hoped that engaging in this practice would bring her closer to her Korean heritage. She also deemed that observing Sanhujori has its benefits, as most believe that consuming specific foods would eliminate impurities after childbirth.

There was a knock on her door. It was Jimin bringing a bowl of seaweed soup.

"Hey Princess," Jimin said. "How long are you going to keep this up? A week? A month?"

"Hopefully for not too long," Eun-hye responded. "I don't think I can last a month without washing my hair."

"You're not supposed to watch TV either," Jimin chided as he reached for the remote control.

Eun-hye pouted. "I didn't expect this to be an all-out ban from civilization."

"Well, according to the rules of Sanhujori, if you don't strictly follow them, you will suffer from joint inflammation, urinary incontinence, low blood pressure, rheumatoid arthritis...."

"Fine! Fine! I see how you're making fun of me, Dad. Now please leave, I need to rest."

"Just saying," Jimin laughed as he exited the room. "You can't blame us later if you experience severe back pain."

A pillow flew overhead and hit Jimin from behind. He turned and smiled at his daughter-in-law, and for a moment he was grateful that Taehyung came into his life, and subsequently Alex, Eun-hye and now his grandson Taemin. Maybe he's being selfish, but he had no regrets tendering to his friend. After all, another man's loss was his gain.
