Mrs. Jeon froze. She suddenly put down the teacup that almost reached her lips. She did not betray any emotion when she summoned her servant.

"Where is Jung-kook right now?" Mrs. Jeon asked the girl curtly.

"Umm... I am not sure, ma'am. I can look for him," the maid offered, and she hurried out of the dining hall to search for the young master.

"Well Mrs. Shin, it would seem that we would have to wait quite a while as I do not know where my son went," Jung-kook's mother stated. "Why don't you let me deal with my son and go home to your daughter who must be waiting?"

"Ah yes, perhaps next time we would hear some good news," Mrs. Shin cackled as she stood up from her seat and gathered her purse.

"Not to worry. I'm sure it's only a misunderstanding," Mrs. Jeon assured.

After her guest departed, Mrs. Jeon called her head housekeeper.

"Follow Sae-ron and find out where my son is," she instructed the manservant. "I think she knows where he is but is not telling me and report to me immediately."

"Yes, madam," he replied as he left the hall.

In fact, Sae-ron knew where Jung-kook was, as he's often out on the farm with Taehyung. But she wasn't dense enough to divulge this matter to his mother. It would be fine if the boys were just hanging out as best friends would, but she realized they were more than that.

Sae-ron understood that her allegiance was supposed to be to her employer, the person who paid her wages, but growing up with the young master for several years had taught her one thing: that she can be tossed aside at a drop of a hat. Money has no loyalty except for those who had it.

Her own mother sold Sae-ron to the Jeon household when she was just a child in exchange for food on the table. She held little value, she realized, compared to her brother. Sae-ron assumed that familial love would be enough but clearly, it wasn't. Her mother told her she had no other choice but to do it because her dad deserted their family and left them to fend for themselves.

This was why Sae-ron could relate to the young master. Jung-kook's father also abandoned him when he was little, leaving Jung-kook at the hands of his overbearing mother. Sae-ron would often see Jung-kook weeping in his room after being scolded for trivial things. But even so, Jung-kook would smile every time he saw the maiden.

"Young master," Sae-ron would ask, "why are you crying?"

Jung-kook would usually reply, "It's because you're just too beautiful for words."

And Sae-ron would only blush and giggle. "Oh, Young master, please stop teasing me or I may end up believing you."

And believe him, she did.
