When his son said those words, Uncle Nam looked at him and pleaded, "No, Taetae... that's too dangerous."

Taehyung shook his head. "Papa... I know.... but it's kinda my fault... so let me, please."

"But you might not...." the farmer refused to speak the thoughts that lingered in the air.

"It's okay..... everything will be all right, I promise you," Taehyung reassured him, "besides I'm the only one small enough to fit through the well."

Without looking at his father, Taehyung noticed that the usually stoic Mr. Kim Nam Joon was trying to hold back some tears. But Taehyung realized that he must do this. The farmer was aware of how headstrong his son could be and had little choice but to let him go down below, even if it meant never seeing Taehyung alive again.

The young lad grabbed one line and secured it around his waist, while hoisting another rope and a blanket over his shoulders. He glanced at his father and the other people behind him who were ready to pull them up once he got down.

Here goes nothing, the blonde, blue-eyed boy thought as he rappelled carefully down to reach the other who had been waiting for what it seemed like an eternity.

"Hey, wake-up, wake-up!" It was the same voice Jung-kook heard earlier, but now it sounded nearer, almost close to his ear. "Don't sleep!"

Jung-kook was startled by the vigorous shaking of his shoulders by another presence whom he didn't recognize in the dark.

"I will tie this rope around your waist, but you have to help me if you can," Taehyung informed the boy who felt cold to the touch. He quickly wrapped the blanket over the shivering youngster. Both were thankful that the well had some water to break Jung-kook's fall but also not too high that he could drown.

Taehyung tried to lift the lad onto his back but he wasn't strong enough. "Put your arms around me and try to hold on." Jung-kook attempted to do so, but his weak arms kept slipping and he started crying.

"No, no, don't be sad," Taehyung consoled. "I'm here."

"But... But... I'm scared," Jung-kook whimpered. "Am I going to die?"

Taehyung chuckled, "No, silly, you didn't die when you fell, or when you're here by yourself... You are still breathing and asking stupid questions, so no, I don't think you're gonna die, at least, not right now."

"Ha-ha, very funny," Jung-kook muttered and smiled for the first time since he was trapped inside.

"I don't know about you, but I want to get out of here," Taehyung said, "They're waiting for us with jugs of hot cocoa."

"That sounds nice," Jung-kook responded as he held on to his rescuer.

Taehyung grinned and shouted to his father, "We're ready! Pull us up!"

As the boys slowly ascended, they snaked their arms around each other in an embrace, both not knowing that this would become their second beginning.
