1995, Present Day
"Can't you see I'm suffering?" Eun-hye echoed her father's words from years past.
"I understand," Jung-kook nodded.
"Do you actually?" Eun-hye retorted. "It didn't seem like you did...... I think you tolerated Alex because you hate confrontation. You welcomed him you said, but you always kept him at an arm's length and a hand behind your back, crossing your fingers, hoping we wouldn't last, that he would go away, and then you'd come across like a good father and tell me, 'I told you so,' when my heart gets broken."
"No, no, that wasn't my intention," Jung-kook protested in defence.
"Oh no? But guess what? Either way, it won't happen," Eun-hye declared. "Whether you, or grandma, or anybody else like it or not, I will still marry Alex."
Jung-kook looked at his daughter, unsure whether to be proud or jealous that she's able to stand up for herself when he couldn't.
"You know what's the funniest thing, Dad?" Eun-Hye asked her father. "The funny thing is that people who look like you and Grandma adopted Alex, but they're nothing like you. They are loving and kind and saw past the colour of people's skin and love Alex as if he's their own son."
"Now, you can't say that Eun-Hye, we do love you, very much, but just not in the way you wanted," Jung-kook objected.
"Really, so you mean love as in limiting someone else's happiness for the sake of saving 'face?'" Eun-Hye vehemently added. "I'm sick and tired of this argument which seems to be repeating every time we meet."
"Please, Eun-Hye, I will talk to Grandma," Jung-kook beseeched.
"Good luck to that," Eun-Hye remarked. "In the meantime, I'll be staying at Alex's place."
And that was the last time Jung-kook saw his daughter before she gave birth to her son.
