Taehyung had never prayed so hard in his life. He was racked with guilt so immense that he called out to God, Buddha, Allah, Brahma, Confucius, and even the Pope to help him. He hoped that whoever the victim was in the well would survive his fall. He screamed as he ran through the fields and raced as fast as his feet could take him.
The head farmer and some others heard the commotion and went outside of their houses. He saw Taehyung barrelling down the hill like a devil and instinctively knew he was in trouble. With little hesitation, he rushed and helped his son scramble around for ropes, axes, blankets, and whatnots.
After quickly rounding up people and supplies, Taehyung briefed them of the situation and they eagerly headed back out to the watering place.
It was almost pitch dark, and they listened to the howling, most likely by coyotes; to think the cries were from wolves would be an ominous thing.
After what seemed like an eternity, Jung-kook caught some faint yelling outside. The voices grew louder as they neared the spot. Shortly thereafter, Jung-kook noticed some bright light just above him.
"Hey, you! Are you still there?" Someone shouted.
Taehyung almost smacked the palm of his hand to his forehead. What kind of question is that? Of course, he's still there! It's not like he could crawl out of the well by himself.
So, he hollered again, "Hey you! Are you still alive?"
What the fuck? Jungkook thought. Is this guy serious? If his teeth were not chattering from the cold, he would have laughed. So, he only let out a "Yeah, yeah I am."
The sigh of relief that came out of Taehyung's mouth was palpable. He thanked the heavens and all the deities for conjuring such a miracle. His father meanwhile quickly threw down the knotted line and told the person down below to grab hold of it.
Jung-kook's fingers were numb, but he realized his chances of survival would be lesser if he dallied longer in the cold, murky waters surrounding him. He pried his hands wide enough to enclose the rope between his palms. The people above heeded his cry.
"I can't... I can't, it hurts...."
"No, tie the rope around your waist first!" the head farmer exclaimed.
Jung-kook attempted to do so again but his fists shook furiously. A distressed howl pierced through the night sky.
"Wait!" Taehyung exclaimed. "I'm going down."
