1960, The Best of Times

"I shot you!" Taehyung exclaimed. "I beat you! Again! Hahahha." His laughter rang through the air.

Jung-kook pouted, "That's not fair! How come you always win?"

"All is fair in love and war," quoted Taehyung who flashed a grin at his best friend.

"Says the person who wins every time!" Jung-kook grunted.

The blonde put his arm around his buddy and ruffled the latter's soft, dark hair. "Nah, I know you love me, besides you should let me win anyway since I rescued you."

"Why? Why do you have to keep bringing that up?" Jung-kook asked Taehyung who seemed to revel in the one heroic act that happened years ago. "Plus, if it weren't for you lying about your mother being a mermaid, I wouldn't have gone there and checked!"

"Well, I never thought you'd be that......" Taehyung pondered on a word that would seem appropriate.

"Stupid? Dense? Gullible?" Jung-kook offered.

Taehyung smirked. "I was about to say 'innocent' but yeah, those could work too."

The raven-haired lad punched his friend on the side of his arm, and Taehyung winced. "Ouch! That hurts........ Not! So weak, so weak," Taehyung taunted.

"I'll show you weak," Jung-kook shouted as he started chasing after the other boy. "If you hadn't scared me, I would not have ended up in the well."

"And miss the opportunity of becoming your one and only friend," Taehyung retorted as he ran around the fields near their 'spot', which seemed to be everywhere.

"Why you a......" Jung-kook screamed.

"Arrogant bastard? Asshole?" Taehyung offered while laughing and running at the same time.

"I was about to say 'abominable snowman' but yeah those could work too," Jung-kook mocked.

"Hahahah, that was a mouthful," Taehyung shot back.

"Come here and I'll show you a mouthful," Jung-kook said not realizing the impact his words had on the blond boy who was looking at him strangely with his deep blue eyes.
