This is just me gushing over these three songs because each is a favorite for a different reason. So, let's get started.

Favorite Music Video
Free:

The music video for Free is perfect in just about everyway. It captures the idea of the song beautifully and is very entertaining.

As the title suggests Free is about someone listing all the reasons their love interest should be with them instead of who they're currently with. In the song it is repeatedly mentioned that if they got with the person singing they would be free. And what better way to show freedom than having the boys run around the city, singing in the streets?

Not only is it a rather beautiful song with a good beat, but it has one of the best music videos I've ever seen. The black and white effect fits it strangely well, the lack of color almost forces you to focus on the boys and what they're doing as well a a the lyrics to the song. The boys aren't perfect, but when they get it right. They. Get. It. Right.

Favorite Beat
Friends:

My God, the beat to Friends is incredible. I love it so much. There are so many different sounds happening all at once and they all sound really good together.

I don't know music terms, so excuse me if get a few of these wrong. The constant drum in the background makes it so easy to bounce along as it plays. The higher pitched noise that backs it up is a beautiful contrast to the bass.

The series of beats (I guess) that happen at the beginning of the song and before the chorus sound like they should be the beat dropping, but they aren't. Which just makes the actual beat drop so much better. It happens right before the chorus and is a really good back up to boys harmony.

The on in," let me know it's on," gets that much louder than any of the other words and blends with bass behind it. The beat also fits with what the song is trying to say. It's an easy beat to dance to for a song that's all about having fun. It's a lot harder to explain than I thought, but hopefully you get the gist of what I'm trying to say.

Favorite Song
Never's All You Know (Never Know):

Where do I even start? This song is gorgeous, it's one of the few songs that can truly capture the hopelessness of depression (In My Blood is another good one), even if that wasn't what they were going for, but it isn't a sad song. It's telling you to fight and as it continues the little changes to the lyrics make it clear the person is fighting.

" Will I ever know the answer to the writing on the walls? Will I ever find the light?" This is what Jack sings in the first verse. Their obviously hopeless. They don't know what to do. This could make the song seem dark and almost as if it encourages giving up.

" I've been searching for the answer to the writing on the walls. I've been looking for the light." Then he sings this later and it shifts the tone completely. It's not a sob story anymore. It's now about someone who wants to keep going, who doesn't want to give up. They aren't waiting for the light to find them, they're going to find it.

" Tired of running from tomorrow. I lie awake on sleepless nights." Here's another example. This is the first line of the song and sung by Zach. While you could see it as hinting at some form of hope, I see it as a lot darker than that. I see it as someone ready to give up. Someone who's exhausted and just wants it all to stop.

" I can never know forever, let it go without a fight." This is Zach once again and happens just before Jack's line. This is acceptance, this is the person realizing they don't wanna do this anymore. And yes, I did say the same thing before, but the difference is here they don't wanna give up. They want the pain to stop, but they're willing to fight to make sure it does.

" You're doing your thing tryna cope, don't hold onto pain let it go." This is my favorite part of the entire song. I don't think many people realize just how much people with depression do have to cope. They assume that we aren't trying because we still look sad or whatever bullshit reason they have, but we are. I can't speak for everyone since every situation and person is different, but I know the little things I do to cope are usually seen the wrong why.

Lastly, the second part. Their is no better way to fight depression than letting go. You can't let every little thing from your past haunt you and it's hard to forget. Believe me, I know, but it isn't impossible. I don't believe in the saying forgive and forget, since there are plenty of things that shouldn't be forgotten, but not everything deserves to be remembered. Let go of the bad things, you can't change the past, no matter how much you want too. Stop looking back. Focus on right here, right now. Worry about the things you can still change. If you let go of the past, you'll free up so much room for the present.

And there you go. More opinions no one asked, but I'm giving anyway because I can. And Don't Change is a good song with a great message and cool video. My only complaint is Jonah's line," wish you knew that imperfections make you an exception." I definitely see what they were going for, but the wording just really irritates me. I wish it would've been worded differently, but besides that it's a great song. Anyway, I'll see you guys in the next chapter!
