Summary: They drifted apart

Jack's POV
I never expected to be the center of his world. I never wanted to be the only person he spent his time with, but I still wanted to matter to him. Jack was laying in Daniel's lap, his boyfriend running his fingers through his hair, hopping to comfort the younger. I'm happy he's with Jonah, really I am, but I wish he still cared. Jack had been crying for about an hour after Corbyn, his best friend since first grade, once again cancelled their plans. I miss the things we used to do together. I miss getting ice cream every Wednesday, I miss laying under the stars with him on Friday, listening to all the constellation stories he had to tell and even making a few of our own. I miss cuddling with him on Sundays while we had a movie marathon, falling asleep on his couch and having to wear his clothes to school the next day. I miss my Corby, the silly, genius that would always make me laugh. My best friend, my brother, the kid who meant the world to me. I wish I could have him back. It's been 9 months since Jonah and Corbyn got together and at first it was okay, the couple would hang out on the days where Jack and Corbyn didn't have something planned, but over time, it all changed. He started to cancel their dates in favor of Jonah and before either knew it, they had drifted apart. It broke Jack's heart to lose the boy who had and still meant so much to him, he would give the world to have things go back to how they were, when it was just Jack and Corbyn, Corbyn and Jack

~ Time Skip ~

It had been Daniel's idea to ask Corbyn out to ice cream on Wednesday." I don't know, Dani. What if he blows me off, again?" Jack asked, staring at the the mini keyboard on his phone, his thumbs hovering over the letters. Reaby to text Corbyn the second the curly haired teen made up his mind." You'll never know unless you try." The older coaxed gently, Jack nodded slowly." Y-yeah, you're right." The shorter agreed." I always am." The blue-eyed boy added.

Corby💙:

You:
Hey, do you still wanna get ice cream?

Corby💙:
Yeah, sure. It'll be fun

You:
Great! See you soon

Jack sighed in relief as he let his phone fall onto the bed." That was the most stressful thing I've ever done." He flopped back on the bed dramatically, Daniel laughed at him, making Jack smile." I take it he said yes?" The brunette asked." He sure did, for the first time in months it's going to be just us at our favorite ice cream shop." Jack smiled at the thought, memories rushing back from their youth. He kissed Daniel goodbye and walked to Corbyn's house, a happy grin on his face. The blonde was already outside waiting, his face lighting up when he spotted Jack. He climbed down his steps and walked over." Hey, J. It's been a while." Corbyn hugged the younger boy, Jack melting into it." Yeah it has, shall we?" He asked, holding his arm out." We shall." Corbyn answered, hooking them together and walking towards the small shop." You know, I heard the shop has a few new flavors." Corbyn informed." Really! We have to try all of them!" Jack said excitedly." J, you want five ice creams. I don't know..." Corbyn trailed off." Please, Corby?" Jack pouted, looking up at the other with big, milk chocolate eyes. Corbyn's face went soft as he sighed, Jack had always been his soft spot." Fine, but only because I love you." The blonde caved, Jack beamed at him, both from the ice cream and the confession. They soon made it to the shop, since it was only about five minutes from Corbyn's house. They entered and the place brought back so many memories, the nostalgia hitting Jack like a truck." Jack! Corbyn! My two favorite customers, I haven't seen you guys in a while." Eben smiles as the pair walked to the counter, Eben was a friend they made at the shop since they used to come every week." Yeah, will you know, life gets a little hectic sometimes." Corbyn smiled, so that's your excuse, Jack thought, just the slightest bit bitter. Eben nodded with a smile." Well, what can I get you guys? The usual?" He asked, grabbing the ice cream scoopers." Nope, we'll take one of each of the new flavors please." Jack said with a happy smile, Eben looked to Corbyn, eyes slightly wide. The blonde simply shrugged and revived a knowing smirk from the boy behind the counter." Coming right up." He said and started getting the cups and filling them with the frozen treats. He grabbed two spoons on his way to the register and rung them up." And after adding the family discount, your total is $15.78." Eben informed, Corbyn had the money on the counter before his bestie could blink." Corbyn! I wanted to pay." Jack whined, the blonde fondly rolled his eyes with a giggle, looking down at him." After 7 years you still can't accept the fact that you aren't going to pay for the ice cream." Corbyn teased, he was right though. When Corbyn started to earn his allowance he began to pay for the sweet treats and Jack had always felt bad about making the older pay every week, but when ever he tried to pitch in Corbyn would refuse. They went to their usual booth, it was all the way in the back, their own little secluded corner. The boys took turns sampling the different flavors." My favorite is defiantly the chocolate strawberry." Jack decided, taking another scoop, it was a vinalla base with chocolate fudge swirls and strawberry chunks." I like the mint chocolate chip, I can't believe they didn't get it sooner." Corbyn swallowed another spoonful of the mint green frozen treat." But can we both agree that the pistachio one is the worst?" Jack asked, Corbyn nodded his head." Amen, to that." He added, making Jack laugh. The boys threw away the extras, waved bye to Eben and began their walk to the nearby park with their favorite flavors in hand. The high schoolers would always come here after they had been at the shop for a little bit, they would just sit on their bench by the pond and watch the wild water fowl swim happily around the fountain. They sat down and Jack scooted a little closer to Corbyn, not liking all of the space between them. The duo sat in silence until they had finished their ice cream, Corbyn got up to throw the cups away in a nearby garbage can. When he returned, Jack snuggled into his side, the older wrapped his arm around his waist, pressing a soft kiss to his curls. Jack smiled, we fell back into rhythm so easily, it's hard to believe we were ever apart, he thought, entwining their fingers." I missed this." Jack mused." What do you mean?" The blonde questioned, Jack shrugged." Us just hanging out." He elaborated." We sit together at lunch, J." Corbyn reminded." Well, yeah, but its not the same. I miss it just being you and me. You've been hanging with Jonah so much I thought you had forgotten about what we had." Jack admitted, not even thinking before he spoke, but he never did when he was talking to Corbyn." Jack, I... I had no idea you felt that way. Why didn't you tell me?" Corbyn asked, looking down at the shorter." I was afraid you would think I was just being clingy." The brunette explained, looking up into his pale blue pools." I would never, you're my best friend, my brother. I would cancel any plans I had with Jonah if it meant making you smile." Corbyn reassured." I'll tell him that we can't hang out on Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday. We can go back to hanging out like we used to." Corbyn said, Jack beamed at him." Really?! Promise?" He asked excitedly with sparkling eyes." Pinkie." Corbyn responded as they locked their fingers, Jack giggled, suddenly feeling gibby." You have no idea how happy that makes me, I love you, Corby." Jack kissed his cheek, the taller smiled at him." I love you, too, J." They stayed there cuddling until Jack complained he was cold. Corbyn then giving him a piggy back ride all the way to his house and a kiss on the forehead before he left. The curly haired boy smiling at his retreating figure until he disappeared around the corner. I got my best friend back.
