Summary: Maybe Daniel was right, maybe what Jack and Corbyn share isn't healthy
Corbyn's POV
" Corbyn, you have to see how... how unhealthy that is. You're always putting his happiness first." Those words had been echoing in his head since their break-up. Corbyn couldn't stop thinking about them. He wasn't right, he couldn't be right. Corbyn wasn't unhappy, Jack made him happy. Didn't he?Of course he did! Corbyn loved his best friend more than anything. And there was nothing wrong with him wanting to help Jack. He needed him. He was happy.
Happy about all the dates he had missed. Happy about not going to prom because Jack was bad with crowds. Happy because comforting Jack caused him to miss out on joining clubs in high school. Happy about... about... he wasn't happy. He really wasn't happy.
But what was he supposed to do? Abandon him? Walk away and never look back? He couldn't do that to him, Jack didn't deserve that. No one did, but especially not him.
So what am I supposed to do? How many more Daniel's will there be? How many more boys will I have to date? How many of them will make me feel the way he did?
" Jack, we need to talk," he spoke softly, not wanting to scare the boy cuddled into his side.
" What's wrong?" Corbyn never called him by his first name." I can't keep doing this."
" What do you mean?" The brunette sat up, dark brows furrowed," our relationship. I can't keep doing this."
" Y-you... you're leaving me?"
" Never, not ever," Corbyn shot up. The words spoken without thought.
" Then what are you talking about?" There were already tears in his eyes. And it dawned on Corbyn that he had no idea what he meant. This had to change, but into what?
" I-I... I don't know," he spoke truthfully, casting his gaze down.
" But, I do know that... that I can't keep running to you. I love you, Jack. I really do, but... you need to find someone else to comfort you."
" You're all I have. You know that," his voice cracked, pale cheeks already streaked with tears. Soft brown eyes turning red," who am I supposed to go to?" His voice was helpless, broken. And it hurt, it hurt to see him like this.
He couldn't do it, Corbyn couldn't say goodbye. There had to be another way. Why are Jack and Zach even together if you're always the one to calm him down?" Zach," he realized.
" Zach?"
" You and Zach have been dating for almost three years. Why don't you go to him?"
" Because he doesn't understand. Not the way you do," Jack grabbed his hand, playing with his fingers. Corbyn lifted his head, caressing his cheek.
" Then help him. Help him understand."
" I don't wanna lose you," Jack whimpered, more tears spilling." And you never will. I. Love. You. Nothing and I mean nothing will ever change that. But, I need to live my own life. I can't worry about every second of every day. I can't keep pushing people away everytime you call. I wanna be happy, Jack."
" You... you aren't happy?" That broke him, Jack couldn't bear the thought of Corbyn not being happy. Of all those smiles being fake.
" I'm happy when I'm with you. I'm happy when we're cuddling or getting ice cream, but I wanna be happy when we're apart too." He wiped away his tears, kissing his lips softly. Jack leaned into him, shutting his eyes.
" Why didn't you tell me? I-I never meant to make you sad, Corby. I love you too much for that," Corbyn chuckled, smiling at him.
" I guess, I was afraid... afraid that... that you would think I didn't want this anymore." Jack met his gaze with gentle, sparkling pools of milk chocolate," I want you to be happy. I know how much you gave up for me and... I don't want that anymore. I don't wanna be a burden to you." He admitted, sitting in his lap.
Corbyn pulled him close, kissing his nose." You will never be a burden, Baby. Don't ever think that," Jack returned the peck, before pulling away, making Corbyn pout." Where are you going?"
" I'm not going anywhere, but you are." Jack laid down, looking up at his best friend with a smirk." And where is that?" Corbyn chuckled, running his fingers through his soft curls.
" To Daniel," the bleached blonde looked at him in shock." Don't look at me like that. I saw the way you acted around him. You never looked at Cole that way. Or Jason, or Jonathan, or Elijah. Or-"
" Okay! Okay, I get it," he laughed, though his expression darkened after.
" But... it's too late for us," he sighed. Jack entwined their fingers, rubbing his knuckles with the pad of his thumb. He didn't speak until ice-blue met brown.
" It's never too late for love."
