I am very late to doing this and that's okay. It's April and I'm just now doing a final thoughts/overview, but I kinda feel like I have to. Reviewing last year's songs was a pretty regular thing for me and it was a lot of fun to take a break from writing one-shots and give my thoughts on the boys' music, even if it wasn't always appreciated.

And, on top of that, I didn't give every song its own full length review. So, this is a great way for me to give my two-cents on all the songs and the year in general.

So, for this I'm gonna be giving 11 of 2019's 12 songs a star rating for the five categories I deem most important for a song. Those categories are: lyrics (pacing, high note, and vocals), substance (the song's ability to hold your attention, not repeat itself, and the message), beat, originality, and enjoyment (is it the kind if song you can just put on in the background) because a song being objectively bad doesn't mean it isn't enjoyable.

And for anyone who's as big of a nerd as I am and I'll explain the simple math behind all this. One star in one category is worth one-fifth or .2 of a star in the final score. So, basically, if Chills gets 3/5 stars for lyrics and zero stars in everything else. 3×.2= .6, so its final score will be .6 or three-fifths of a star, .6/5.

Another example: if Mad At You gets 5/5 for beat and 4/5 for lyrics with zeros in the remaining categories. Its final score will be 1.8/5 stars. The one being the result of a perfect beat score and the .8 coming from the 4/5 for lyrics.

The video scores don't affect anything.

Hopefully, that makes sense. Now for the songs.

1/12: Big Plans- 4.2/5
Lyrics: 4/5
Notes
Would have been a 5/5 had it not been for that God awful high note. The harmony was amazing though

Substance: 4/5
Notes
This song has a great message, holds your attention, and there's enough variety between the choruses and verses that it doesn't seem like it's repeating itself

Beat: 5/5
Notes
This may very well be the best beat of any of their 2019 songs

Originality: 3/5
Notes
I definitely think this song can stand on its own. The message isn't anything new, but the execution was unique enough for it to be recognizable

Enjoyment: 5/5
Notes
This song is a lot of fun if you just wanna shut off your brain and dance

Video: 3.8/5
Notes
It fits the message of the song, but considering the lyrics it could have been better. The video was creative though and I can always appreciate that

2/12: Cold In LA- 4.4/5
Lyrics: 5/5
Notes
The vocals feel alive, like these are actual people that have gone through something. Also, best high note. Period.

Substance: 5/5
Notes
I wrote an entire review for this song, so I won't go too in depth again, but this song does a great job of making each boy's part feel like a diffrent person reacting to the same situation

Beat: 4/5
Notes
It fits the overall mood of the song (cold and crisp), but it is a simple beat

Originality: 5/5
Notes
This song can definitely stand on its own. Like I said, I already reviewed this song in depth, but Cold In LA is very diffrent from their other ones of a similar theme
