Summary: Jack and Corbyn talk about love
Jack's POV
" Do you love my Daddy?" Their calm shaken by the question. Milky chocolate drops drifting over the giraffe picture before him. Voice soft with childish innocence.Ice-blue flicking north, slightly wide. Meeting the back of Jack's softly bobbing head," I... I-I don't know," words almost catching in his throat. Tongue stumbling to speak.
" How do you not know?" The cotton balls of his house shoes bouncing off the plush material. Little feet swinging through the air," either you love him or you don't," curiosity flooding the words. Speaking with confidence, as if it were obvious.
" It's... it's not that simple, Jay," a low sigh floating past Corbyn's lips.
" Yes it is," came drifting to his ears. Jack's tone matter-of-fact," I love my Daddy and I know I love him. It's easy," his mint green crayon falling among the others with a click. A crimson one slipping between lithe fingers.
" My love for your father wouldn't be anything like your's," Corbyn tried. Not fully sure how to explain the concept of love to a 6 year old.
" Why's that?" Words weaving through the spaces of gleaming teeth. His tongue tip held carefully betwixt sharp fangs. Focused on perfectly coloring each unique patch of the giraffe's torso.
" Well... because... because he isn't my dad, I guess. I just wouldn't love him like you do."
" So you don't want him to be happy?" Jack's supple skin folding, brows dropping. Studying the 2D mammal beneath his chest.
" Of course I want him to be happy," the answer spoken immediately.
" Soooo... then, you don't like being around him?" Jack's small head tilting, question slipping past in sections. Gazing down at his picture, genuine confusion swimming through chocolate lakes.
" I love spending time with you and Zach," Corbyn having no clue where this conversation was headed.
" Do you not wanna protect him then?" Jack seeming to be grasping for straws, desperate to get something out of this.
" I would never let anything hurt him," mouth moving before his brain could," Jack, where are you going with this?"
" I just don't understand," little head swinging on his neck. Rolling against the carpet, spine pulling him up once on his back. Short, slender legs crisscross. Leaning forward with his hands bracing the weight.
" You said you didn't know if you loved him, but you do. And you love him the same I do. I want my Daddy safe and happy and I love being with him. So what are you talking about?!" A whine lacing the argument. Glare pouting up at Corbyn, cheeks puffing, hopelessly lost.
The older blonde blanking, face going flat. Dissecting their conversation in his head, turning it upside down. Flipping it on it's back. Struggling to remember what point he had even been trying to prove.
Then it dawned on him. Realization sweeping across his face like the sun to a field," you're... absolutely right," coming out as a mumble. Unable to quell his shock as he stared down at Jack.
" Wow," awe leaving his words breathy," you're right, Jack. That... that was actually a really smart thing to say."
The younger's skin seeming to began to shine. Muddy-brown shimmering with flecks of light," really?" Lips curving up in a big grin. His entire being glowing at the simple praise.
Corbyn making no effort to silence his chuckle. Gazing fondly at the child," yeah, really," Jack's head tilting up just a little higher. Tiny chest puffing slightly.
" How would you feel about that though? About me loving your dad?" The boy's head slowly dropping, shoulders and chest relaxing. Humming silently, delicately chewing his bottom lip. Studying the gray carpet.
" I want my Daddy to be happy. And you make him happy. That's all I want," mused quietly, honestly. Corbyn's muscles going slack at the endearing words.
" But how do you feel about me?"
" I...", sentence falling from his tongue. Landing uselessly to the ground. The boy's cheeks dusted with the softest possible pink," I really like you. You're funny and smart. And you buy me pizza even when Daddy says no," he glanced up. Timid eyes hiding beneath his lashes," I... I love you, Corby."
" I love you, too, Jacky," Corbyn cooed low. The smaller grinning, bashfully casting his gaze to the side. Cheeks still flushed with warmth.
The rattle of keys sudden. Door clicking open to reveal a quietly sighing Zach," sorry I took so long. The store was packed," the skin of his forearms dented with a few random bags. Barely seeming weighed down by their contents. Coming to a gradual stop, looking between his boys. Speaking slowly," what happened?"
" Corby said he loved me, Daddy," Jack giggled into his legs. Nuzzling his still burning face against him.
" He did?" Zach sending the large blonde an adoring look. His brown gaze almost identical to Jack's. Sparkling with the same affection. Corbyn returning it with a fond look of his own. Maybe Jack really had been right," I'm glad, Baby boy. Do you love him?"
" Uhuh," Jack gazing up to his father. Eyes doey, chin resting against his mid-thigh," he loves you too," spoken innocently. Seemingly unaware of it's significance, though Corbyn doubted that.
Corbyn helplessly entranced with the way Zach's handsome features softened. His smile going slack, the skin around his eyes dropping. Leaving his gorgeous orbs clear. Glistening in the light. A quiet breath slipping through his nose. Corbyn melting hopelessly. His own smile small, but adoring. Only confirming Jack's words.
" Well, I love him too."
