For a couple of weeks, I've been doing a lot better, taking my meds and staying out of trouble. However, one day when I came home there was this news that I received that got my heated up.
"Hey, ma. I'm home." I walked in the door.
"Oh, Ly, honey take your backpack off, we got to go to the hospital." Katherine said in a panic.
"Why what's wrong?" I asked.
"No time for questions. Just get to the car, now!" Katherine said.
We drove to the hospital, we saw grandma sitting in the lobby. Katherine ran up to her and was worrying about something.
"Oh my god, mom. Where are they?" Katherine said.
"They're on the fifth floor, come on." Grandma said.
"Ly, come on!" Katherine said.
We got in the elevator to the fifth floor, once the doors open we saw Charlene with a black eye and her lip was bruised.
"Oh my god, Charlene. Are you alright?" Madison said as she hugged her.
"I'm alright, I guess." Charlene said.
"Where is he? How is he?" Madison wondered.
"Not good, he beat him pretty bad." Charlene said.
We walked inside the room and we saw my half brother Marcus beaten and bruised up. His eyes were swollen shut, his nose was broken, his bottom lip was busted, most of his ribs were broken, and blood stains were on his forehead.
"Oh my god!" Madison said as she was crying.
Charlene boyfriend beat her and Marcus tried to stop him, but he beaten him to coma.
"We're going to leave him, but he grabbed me and start hitting me. Marcus fought him off, but he was too strong, he nearly crushed his skull. They arrested him. The doctor said that his coma will last about five months." Charlene explained.
"Charlene I'm so sorry." Katherine said as she hugged him.
I looked at my badly beaten brother in the bed. Seeing him like this made me sick to my stomach. Why would someone do this to him. I was so angry and filled with raged inside me on what happened to my brother.
At choir practice, I wasn't in a good mood to sing. I didn't even want to be there at all. All I was thinking about is my brother. We were sing, He'll Give You Peace Like A River and the director knows that I wasn't on the right pitch.
"Wait, stop, stop, stop, stop stop. Ly, you're flat. That's not how you're suppose to sing it. Try it again from the top." my choir director said.
We started again, but I still continued being flat and my director stopped me again.
"Cut!" he yelled at the choir and look at me.
"Young man what is wrong with you? I don't know what's gotten into you, but you need to grill it up and eat it. And learn how I told you to do it." the choir director said.
"Maybe I don't feel like doing it your way then!" I said in anger.
"Mr. Cawthron. I'm warning you. One more word out of you and you're out of the choir." the choir director said.
"Fuck you!" I yelled at the director as the rest of the choir was shocked that I cussed in church.
"What did you say, son?" the choir director said.
"I said fuck you." I said again.
"That's it. You're out. Get out." said the choir director as I walked out of the church.
"I'll be praying for child. I swear in the holy name of Jesus!" the director exclaimed as I left the church.
Also, I've been getting into a lot of fights in school lately. I was fighting this one kid who picked up me lately. I've beaten him to a pulse, just like the man who beaten my brother.
"Hey, stop it! Stop!" a teacher came in broke us up.
I got sent to the principal office and got expelled from the school. My mom picked me up and drove me back home. My mom looked furious while driving home. We got home my momma started to have a talk with me, as I try to rush into my room.
"Lysander! Lysander!" Katherine called me as I slammed my bedroom and put my headphones on.
"Ly!" Katherine shouted as she open my door and yanked my headphones off.
"What?" I said.
"We need to talk!" Katherine said.
"About what?" I asked.
"You! Sit up straight." she ordered as I sat up.
"You can't keep doing this, Ly. It's not healthy, especially not for a young boy like you. You been fighting and cussing out people. It's got to stop. I know you're still torn up about Marcus, but being angry at the world won't help. You have to better yourself. Do you hear me? I said do you understand me, Lysander? " Katherine said
"Yes ma'am." I said with me eyes looking down.
"Consider yourself grounded for two more weeks." Katherine said as she left my room with the door close.
My momma and my grandma were discussing what they should do to me and what program they will put me in since I got expelled. They were online looking at different schools and different programs that would fit for me. It was called, "Perimeter Church Young Families. They look at the reviews of the place and all of them are positive and said that the ministry saved people's children. They thought that this could help me. The next day, they took me to the building and they gave me a grand tour. They had different sections for the kids. They thought it was best to be put in the music department. Since ma and grandma knew I love music. Most of my days there, I've been learning how to play guitar and piano, but I liked playing the guitar more, because I imagine myself as Kurt Cobain, one of my idols. So far I've been attended the ministry for 12 months and so far, I've been doing just great no troubles, no drama.
