SAO drabbles ~

Asuna's magic carpet ride | PART 4

The carpet rested on a rooftop that had been placed over the city life of Tokrabah, people dancing around a fire and singing, as fireworks explode in the sky. 

Princess Asuna sat beside me, taking in the view, smiling. 

While the princess smiles at the view, I smile at my view, which was her. 

She turns to me and blushes as she catches me looking at her.

"Tokrabah's people are really full of life, aren't they?"

I nod in response. "Yeah, they don't have much but they still find happiness... in each other."

The princess shuffles slightly closer to me. 

"Would your monkey like the music?"

Without thinking, I answer her, and oh boy I wish I didn't. 

"Nah, he'd just be scared of the music and-"

I instantly panic and facepalm. 

Crap! Why did I mention my monkey?!

The princess looks at me with anger and pouts. 

"Oh no- P-Princess I can explain!"

"So you ARE the boy from the market!"

I flail my arms in a panic, nearly falling off the roof.

"I-I'm not!"

"Don't lie to me! Why would you lie to me?!"

"I-I'm not lying to you! I-errrr..."

"Did you think I was stupid or something?"

"What?! No!"

"Did you think I'd just fall for you if you lied?!"

"No! Princess, please, let me explain!"

"I want the truth!"

"T-The truth?!...Errr...the truth...is...I...sometimes dress as a commoner...to...errr...get to know my people better and...to errr...escape the pressures of palace life?" I look at her, smiling nervously. 

"W-Well, why didn't you just tell me that?" The princess asks once calm. 

I rub my neck nervously. 

"Well, you know, um...royalty going out into the city in disguise, it sounds a little strange, don't you think?"  I say while trying to sound serious and shuffle closer to her. 

The princess lets out a sigh and smiles once again. 

"I...I guess I understand the struggles of being royalty and wanting to escape..."

As I nod and smile to her response, the princess moves closer towards me and rests her head upon my shoulder as we both watch the fireworks together under the moonlit sky.

The carpet eventually flies back to the princess's balcony.

I assist the princess as she steps off the carpet onto her balcony safely. 

From her balcony, I smile as she and I face each other. 

"Thank you for tonight, Prince Kazu."

"Sleep well, princess..."

"Goodnight, my sweet prince..."

At that moment, the carpet decides to push me onto Asuna's lips into an accidental kiss. 

I hold onto the princess's cheek as our lips meet. 

After pulling apart from the kiss, she looks at me smiling while walking away. 

I watch as the princess walks away till she puts her curtains up and smile as the accidental kiss incident replays in my mind. I hold my arms to the back of my head, fall backward off the balcony, landing on the carpet. 

"YES!" I whisper while sighing from the tingling feeling of the kiss. 

"I had a feeling that things are going right, carpet...." I say as the carpet glides me towards my room in the palace.
