It was another cold winter's day in Miyagi's Prefecture outside of Sendai. The ground and trees were covered with blankets of snow, the birds were nowhere to be seen.
...but if you thought that stopped her, you thought wrong.
Asuna Yuuki sat by the garden door at the back of her grandparent's house, as the fireplace kept her warm, jumping with excitement as her grandma helped her put on her coat and gloves.
Her grampa smiled to himself as he stood up from the mat he was sitting on and also went to fetch his coat.
Asuna was visiting her grandparents for the winter while the rest of her family attended a memorial service at the Yuuki ancestral home in Kyoto.
Asuna decided to visit her grandparents instead of attending the memorial since she wanted to spend more time with her grandparents and preferred their lifestyle over her own parent's lifestyle. They were kind, gentle, and had time to speak with her, which was the opposite of Asuna's parents, who were cold and always pre-occupied with work of their own.
When it came to Asuna's home life, it was far from easy for her.
Coming from a rich family, no one would assume that, yet her life was far from perfect. Her parents would constantly tell her what to do and what not to do, as well as force her to attend many events with them, some events being finding a future suiter for Asuna.
Asuna hated that her parents controlled her life and wished they would let her have an ounce of freedom for her to make her own decisions and be a normal thirteen-year-old, who could have fun instead of worrying about keeping her posture straight, representing her family's name wherever she goes and keeping straight A's in class, which is something Asuna's mother pressured her with constantly.
Asuna was already attending a private all girl's school academy called Karumisan Academy near where she lived in Setagaya. For Asuna's mother, Asuna's grades represented the Yuuki household, which meant any grade lower than an A would bring dishonor to the family and bad luck to Asuna's life...or so she was told from the day she learned how to speak.
Because of this, Asuna was forced by her mother to attend multiple tutoring lessons after her school hours, as soon as she got home, such as learning English and Chinese in case her father would have meetings with CEO's from international departments, double mathematics since her mother hopes for Asuna to pursue a career in science in the future, as well as Piano since Asuna had to always make her family look most impressive and better than other families, which came down to constantly having to represent her family name in such a forced, negative, fake, egotistical way, which she absolutely hated doing, but had no choice but to do so since she did not wish to go against her parent's orders.
Asuna did not have many friends at school since most girls could not stand how Asuna excelled at all her lessons and found themselves to be jealous of her grades and her appearance. Her mother forced her to act like a snob to the girls since she had to represent the family name, which Asuna hated doing, since deep down inside, she was kind and friendly and the complete opposite of what her mother made her act like. She spent most of her break time and lunchtime alone. If Asuna could show her true self to the girls, she was sure she would be able to make friends with them.
Because of Asuna's home life and school life, she preferred staying with her grandparents when she could. Her grandparents would tell her stories about the past, how they used to live their lives back in the day and talk about how much they treasure their daughter, and how much they miss her since Asuna's mother did not visit them often. Her mother was embarrassed about the lifestyle her own parents chose to follow and embarrassed by their social status since she married into a rich family and came from a non-wealthy background.
