You were finally back at school with Skyla trailing behind you. You waved to the security guards as you went inside the building, leisurely walking to class. Everyone knew about your situation and would leave you alone. You were a good kid. The halls were quiet and empty, the only sounds were you and your sister's footsteps echoing in the halls. However, it was soon going to be silent as you neared your next class. You placed your hand on the large wooden door and took a deep breath, let's get this over with. You pushed the door making a loud noise causing everyone to turn towards you.
"Ah, it looks like you can finally make it [Y/N]," Mr. Smith teased as he stood proudly in front of the line of students. His hands were resting on the top of his sweatpants which were hiding under his red tee-shirt. Resting on top was a sliver whistle, that was around his neck. His large black and brown speckled wings were relaxed behind him, waiting to take flight.
You fucking hated gym class.
"It seems so, Mr. Smith," you sassed as you strolled in. Skyla poked her head in through the doors and scanned the gym until her eyes landed on someone.
"Mr. Smith," Skyla cheered running over towards him, embracing him in a large hug.
"Heya Skyla," he smiled as he hugged her back. As you neared closer to the two, you could see that your class increased from the corner of your eye. Fuck, you thought as you peeked at the added four. The short skeleton whose name you still haven't learned. Had yellow and black goggles with large carrion crow wings on his back. Beside him was Papyrus, who had similar goggles but instead of black carrion crow wings, his were pure white. He also wore a bright orange cape that shook due to him being noogied. Noogieing Papyrus was Undyne, who had medium kingfisher wings with red and black goggles. Standing nervously beside them was Alphys, who had small yellow canary wings with black and white goggles. "So [Y/N] you plan on joining the class today," Mr. Smith asked as he let Skyla go, who went to sit in the middle of the track. Mr. Smith was always like this. Trying to get you to spread your wings and fly but...
You never did.
You laughed quietly, walking past him towards your sister. You dropped your bag and went to the stopped at the starting line, twisting your head to Mr. Smith. "Does this answer your question," you smirked getting into starting position and taking off. You ran like the wind. You were pretty fast, maybe one of the fastest kids in the school. Since you wouldn't fly, you had to find other ways things to do and running was one of them. You had to complete 10 laps in order to get some credit. It would send a rush through you. The wind brushing past you and the world blurring around you as you sped past. The memory of someone calling the number of laps in the sky as your sister did it for you on the ground. It made you feel like you were flying. However, you knew you weren't but...
It was a good substitute.
Sans POV
I watched as the girl ran past the line of students on the red track. In the corner of my eye, I could see Mr. Smith watching her with a worried look.
"Oh [Y/N]," Mr. Smith mumbled as he covered his eyes. I studied him as he took a loud deep breath pulling his hand off his face. He wore a tight-lipped smile and a bit of an empty stare, he looked sad. "Please excuse her," he sighed as he rubbed the nape of his neck, "She usually isn't like that." He glanced at her as she made her next lap, shaking his head a bit.
"ISN'T SHE GOING TO FLY WITH US," Papyrus asked as the students beside us laughed quietly.
"The freak fly! I would love to see the day," one of the kids joked as the laughter raised. I turned to find the boy from this morning with large hawk wings and black goggles. Freak, I thought.
"Adam," Mr. Smith scowled, "What did I say about talking to your classmates like that?"
"If it's not nice, don't say it at all," Adam recited as he rolled his eyes and made a 'psh' sound, not giving a single damn.
"Yes so, don't talk like that again or I'm gonna have to give you a detention," Mr. Smith warned pointing a finger threateningly. Being the asshole he was, Adam mumbled under his breath. It was probably some cocky shit like 'As if' or 'Bitch try me'. Mr. Smith took a deep breath and put his hand back on his hip. "Now back to what I was saying earlier," he said scanning the class, "Everyone will fly 10 laps around the track, then we will meet up and go from there." Everyone nodded understanding. "So, get going!"
With that, we all took off into the air. The gym was the largest part of the school, well other than the field outside. So, we all had enough room to fly around and not bump each other. As I flew I watched [Y/N] run. What did Adam mean by freak, I thought as a swerved around someone. Sure she was a bit distant from others and a loner. As well as a bit of a mystery but she seemed like a good person. She did help Alphys with her work today and was pretty cool. Well, other than the fact that she blew her off. I observed her short legs carry her around the track, Was it because she isn't flying? Maybe. Wait...
Why isn't she flying?
[Y/N] POV
After completing your laps, you skidded to a stop beside Skyla. You took deep breaths and grabbed the water she held out to you.
"That was probably your fastest time yet," Skyla beamed as you drank the entire cup of water.
"Thanks, Sky," you said as you wiped your mouth with your sleeve. You went to the nearby garbage to throw it out as you did, you heard flapping coming closer to you. You turned and saw Mr. Smith landing onto the floor, he stared at you with a frown.
Uh, not this again, you groaned in your head.
