"how did you find this place," sans inquired, looking around.
"During my freshman year, I would walk around the school pretty often. I would always notice how this one staircase kept going up. While all the others stopped at the second floor. So, I went up and I found the wire gate," you explained as you placed your bag on the floor. sans watched you with interest, waiting for you to continue. While you moseyed near the edge of the building, staring out into the distance. "Unlike other students, the gate was no problem for me. I simply hopped over and opened the door. To find this," you stated as you spread your arms out. Motioning towards everything, sky, clouds, breeze, concrete roof. Simply everything as far as the eye can see. Trying the sell your act, easily lying through your teeth with a smile.
"well, this is a great find," sans agreed as he strolled beside you. Observing the area with you, in silence.
You both stood there soaking up the beauty of it. Today wasn't as bright as usual. A bit cloudy but, that added to the design in the sky. Along with a stray bright red balloon, that some kid is probably crying about. The birds in the sky were flying south for the soon coming winter. It was beautiful.
"come on let's get to work," sans advised cutting the peaceful moment. Removing your eyes from the gorgeous sky, you stepped away. Walking towards the door, only so you could sit and lean against it. sans followed you, sitting beside you.
"I did some research," you started as you pulled out a dark blue notebook. As sans listened, eating a hamburger for lunch.
++++
"So, let's continue this during class," you concluded as you packed up.
"yeah," sans agreed.
You two worked diligently throughout lunch. It was quite a surprise to you but, the lazy pun-loving skeleton was actually a genius. Sure, you always thought he was smart but, it was beyond what you expected. He was amazing! Within the 30 minutes at lunch, you guys picked a topic and figured out the details for your project.
Slinging your bag over your shoulder, hitting your hip. You turned to find sans, standing up with his tray. When his eyes met yours, you motion towards the door with your head. Indicating that you two should leave which, he nodded and followed. You opened the door and walked towards the wire door in the gate, holding it open for sans. He strolled through which, you then locked with your key and hopped over the gate.
"how do you have that key," he asked as you strolled pasted him. You tensed up slightly, freezing. You could remember clear as day. As if it was yesterday when in reality it was ages ago.
~Flashback~
"Alright [Y/N]," your mother smiled softly as she peeked at you. Causing her long [h/c] hair to fall off her shoulder. Drifting gracefully onto her back, brushing against the collar of her sky blue shirt. "I want to show you something really cool."
"Really," you cheered bouncing up and down. Slightly tugging her soft hand as she held your hand. She chuckled quietly, watching your smile grow on your face.
"Yeah but, you can't tell anybody," she said, "Okay?"
"I promise," you beamed, extremely excited. You've been sitting in the back of the science classroom for a while. Sure, your mom's job was cool because it dealt with chemicals and stuff. But, you were beginning to get antsy and bored. So, this was great.
"Good," she approved. We began to approach a tall wire gate, that was even taller than your mom. The holes in it were large and diamond-shaped, leading up to a large gap on the top. Behind the gate, you could see a dark brown door that had the paint peeling off it. "Hold on."
Your mom let go of your hand and rustled in her pocket, searching for something. After a couple of seconds, she pulled out a small grey key. Grabbing a small lock, that you didn't see. Swiftly opening it, along with a hidden door in the gate.
"Come on," she said holding her hand out for you. You glanced at it see her bright red nails, which she allowed you to paint for her. They were really messy but, she fixed it. Easily you took her hand and followed her. As she led you to the brown door, grasping onto the silver handle. Opening it and releasing a blinding light, you covered your eyes with your other arm. Not letting go of your mother's soft grip. Slowly adjusting to the change in lighting, lowering your arm.
The sky was bright blue with some clouds. Shapes like marshmallows or rabbits floated around. As the birds flew around in a playful manner. Your [f/c] dress fluttered behind you, along with your thin coat. Which, now made sense why your mother told you to bring it. You let go of your mother's hand and stepped out the door. Wanting to be more with the sky. You felt the warm beams in the sun hit your skin. In the distance, you could see the town. Cars were driving past shops and cafes. The faint noise of chattering and laughter accompanied the noisy cars. Some people were walking while some were flying. A smile grew across your face as you reached up to the sky. Wishing that you could be up there and flying along with them.
It was amazing.
"Do you like it," a voice inquired, snapping you out of your trance. You turned to find your mother standing in the door frame. A large smile that seemed to make her [e/c] eyes sparkle. As she watched you nod your head quickly.
"I LOVE IT," you resounded as you spun with your arms out. You heard your mom laugh, bright and charming.
"Good," she beamed, "Well I have a gift for you." You stopped and hurried towards her quickly. She knelt onto the concrete roof and grabbed your hand. Placing a small object into your hand and closing it. Being the curious child you were, you opened your hand to inspect it. It was the key to the wire gate. Your eyes widened as you looked up at your mom. "So, you won't be so bored while I'm working. You can come up here and wait instead," she reasoned. Quickly launched onto her and hugged her tightly.
"Thank you," you squealed rocking the hug side to side. Your head nestled into her soft hair which smelled like flowers.
"Your welcome," she said, rubbing your head lightly.
"I love you, mom."
"I love you too sweetie."
~End of Flashback~
You silently clenched your fist in your pocket. As the memories flashed in your head. All the times you would go up with her. Whether it be to talk or to simply watch the day go by. It was the best moments of your life. But...
It could never happen again.
"One of the security guards dropped it," you lied, "I made a copy and gave the original back." You peeked over your shoulder with a forced smile. sans stood there for a second and scanned you, worry in his eyes. It was clear that he was debating whether or not to ask if you were okay. However, right now you didn't feel like dealing with a ocean of questions. "Come on let's go, were going to be late for class," you pointed out. Hoping that it would stop his internal argument. He did a once over again and shrugged a little.
"ok," he said. It was evident that he was still a bit concerned. So, on the way to class, you told him a couple of jokes. Easily disappearing his worry. It was easy to lie through your teeth, all you needed was a smile...
