Y/n POV
For as long as I've known, I've been in love with Figure skating. It's such a beautiful and graceful sport and just so mesmerizing. However, I never really got the chance to start it. My family had always been tight with money so we never had enough for me to skate, but I loved going to the rink to watch the advanced skaters. One of them was Yuri Plistetsky, who is now one of the greatest skaters in the world. He's also my best friend. We met when I was around 7 and i saw him working with coach Yakov, who was getting on his ass about keeping position in his jumps. After he got off the ice, I had complemented him on his jumps. He was slightly taken aback by my courage to talk to him. The following week I returned to the rink. He saw me a gently waved. Since then, we've been close. I'm the only one he can truly be real with and he doesn't have to hide his real personality with. We stuck by each other for a long time, even while I was in school and he was skating. My school life was never the best, I'd get bullied a lot for liking skating because it was looked at as boring. I never had many friends and would mainly spend my time alone. I always had Yuri though. He was all I ever needed and all I really need now.
He's about to start the Grand Prix season, making his Senior Debut. He had just won his Junior title, without any quad jumps so Viktor Nikiforov, another one of the greatest skaters around has to coach him this season."Hey Yuri!" I shout, waving my hand at him as he gets off the ice
"Hey Y/n" he whispers slightly in his tough boy act making me giggle slightly.
"How was your practice?" I ask interested in what he's working on.
"It was good. I'm throwing in some quads this year"
"That's great Yuri! I can't wait to see them!"
"Yeah. Could you hand me my phone?" I reach into his bag and pull out his phone. An article comes it and it reads 'Victor Nikiforov goes to Japan to coach Yuri Katsuki'. Uh oh...
"Oi Y/n what's taking so long?"
"Um you're probably not going to be too happy about this..." I trail off giving him his phone
He reads it, staying quiet and then looking up at me. "I'm going to Japan"
I shake my head in disbelief. "What?!"
"He agreed to be my coach if I won the Junior Grand Prix without quads"
"Yuri..."
"It's all because of the stupid pig from last year" he mutters and slightly pouts
"If you really want to go to Japan and bring Vikor back I'll support you"
"Really?" He looks back at me, eyes slightly widened
"It's for the best of your skating career" I give him a gentle smile
He smiles back and hugs me. "Thank you Y/n! I'll see you when I get back!" He grabs his bag and runs out quickly.
I begin to walk home thinking about the Grand Prix finals. I can't believe it's Yuri's first year! I know he'll win! I flip through my phone as I see pictures of us we've taken at different competitions in past years and even when we'd skate just to hang out. Even though he is always super busy with training and all, he still made time for me, for us. Whether it was doing to the mall to do shopping or staying home and watching a movie we would always be with each other. I'm excited for him, he's going to win gold and I'm gonna be there when he does
But why did he have to leave at the worst time possible?
~time skip~
I unlocked the door to my house to find it empty. Taking in a breath i take off my shoes and drop my bag. I walk upstairs to see my mother sleeping soundly, surrounded with bottles of alcohol. I shut her door gently, carful not to wake her and retreat to my room. My father passed away 2 weeks ago and my older sister has been fighting with my mom lately, leading to my mother drinking and yelling at me too. She doesn't hit me, she throws stuff, but has never hit me. I haven't told Yuri about this, he has too much on his plate right now. I rolled on my bed and plugged in my phone falling into deep slumber.
