Jace took a shower to calm down his nerves. He went to the living room and watched TV to distract himself but that didn't help. Just then he heard Charlotte's car pull up in front of her house. He took out his phone and called her.
"Hey Charlotte, wanna come over?" he asked in the most balanced tone possible.
"Uhhh, I'm kinda tired right now, baby." She said not ready to face him yet.
"Ohhh" Jace sighed dejectedly. This made her feel bad.
Charlotte realized that she has to face him sooner or later, "How about I take a shower and then come over?"
"That sounds great" he squeaked.
"Are you okay Norman?" she observed the difference in his tone.
"Yeah Charlotte, absolutely" he spoke in the same balanced tone but the truth is his anger is trying to take over and he is trying very hard to fight it. It was as if he was waging a war with himself.
"Kay, see you in a bit, bye baby" Charlotte hung up.
"I don't know how long I can keep this from him but I have to," Charlotte told to herself.
"Lottie, we are here for you if you need us," Morgan assured her.
"Yeah, we can come with you if you want" Riley offered.
"No, I have to do this alone and I can" Charlotte assured herself.
"Okay, remember, do not, I repeat DO NOT let him know about what happened today. Just tell him the truth and nothing else." Morgan warned her.
"Okay, I will only tell him the truth and apologize, that's all." Charlotte went to take a shower bracing herself, to tell the truth, and apologize to Jace for lying to him.
Jace, on the other hand, paced up and down in the living room continuously repeating himself, "Give her a chance to explain", "Give her a chance to explain", "Give her a chance to explain".....
After what seemed like forever, Charlotte mustered up all her courage and rang Jace's doorbell. He opened it with a wide smile, a very fake wide smile.
"Hey, baby" Charlotte smiled softly and kissed him gently on the lips.
"Hey Charlotte, come on in," he said in an eerily calm voice. He closed the door behind them and locked it.
"So, how did the lunch meeting with my parents go baby?" Charlotte asked treading the waters cautiously. She wanted to make sure he was in a good mood before she could tell him the truth because if he wasn't, there was no telling as to how he would react.
"Oh, it went great Charlotte. How was your day?" he asked in an extra sweet voice.
She was too preoccupied with her own thoughts that she didn't realize he hasn't once called her "angel".
"It was great baby, we had a lot of fun" she smiled genuinely feeling relieved that he is in a good mood. That should make her job easier.
"A lot of fun huh?" Sarcasm was evident in his voice but sadly, not to her. He felt his patience slipping bit by bit.
"Yup, we even got to participate in the Beach cleanup" she replied excitedly.
Charlotte decided to seal the whole Josh issue in a box and throw it deep in the ocean for fear of losing Jace. That meant she can't tell him about meeting Ricardo either, not that it was a good idea considering that he asked her out.
"I bet you had a lot of fun then," he said taking a step closer to her.
"Yeah, we even made some cool new friends," she said vaguely.
"Anyone I should know about?" he asked trying super hard to control his rising anger, which was now becoming an impending volcano about to erupt.
He was willing to give her a chance to explain herself because that is the right thing to do.
"Nope, not particularly" she shrugged casually and that sent him off the edge.
"Are you fucking with me Charlotte?" he yelled at the top of his voice. She flinched at the intensity of his voice. She has never seen him this angry before. He himself didn't know he was capable of that much anger, until today.
"Answer me Charlotte" he grabbed her hand shaking her. This made her angry.
"What the fuck is wrong with you Norman?" she yelled back, yanking her hand away.
"Oh, you don't get to yell at me Charlotte." His voice was dangerously low as he stared her down.
"What the fuck is your problem Jace?" she asked irritated.
"You are my fucking problem Charlotte. How the fuck can you do this to me, huh?" he held both her hands to her sides caging her.
"I can't take your fucking mood swings Norman, I'm outta here" she tried to wriggle free. He was clearly not in a good mood and she can't risk telling him the truth now cuz it will only aggravate things more.
"You are not leaving this place until we resolve this issue," he said sternly tightening his grip on her wrists causing her to wince.
"What fucking issue Norman? Why don't you go solve your stupid fucking issues somewhere else?" she seethed.
"Stop cussing at me Charlotte" he warned her sternly.
"Why don't you fucking make me Norman?" she retorted. She knew he was angry but she was angry too. Why would he yell at her like that without any reason?
"Charlotte, stop cussing right now or...."
"Or what Norman, huh? I will fucking talk whatever the fuck I want. What the fuck are you gonna do about it?" she snarled at him.
He just shook his head, "you just made your punishment way worse Charlotte"
To be continued.......
