After we return the waverunners we start walking along the beach. Kids are splashing water at each other and their parents are sunbathing. In the corner of my eye I can see Alex watching our surroundings with a sad smile on his face.
"Okay, I'll admit, that was actually pretty cool," I exclaim and smile.
Alex just shakes his head and we continue walking.
"So," I say, dragging out the word "what's your story then?"
"You mean like my life story?" he asks.
"Yeah, like, have you always been a jerk?" I laugh a little at my question and Alex looks down.
"Not always." He glances at his hands.
"When did you start acting like one?"
"Few years ago... " he begins, looking a little hesitant "Can we talk about something else?"
"Yeah sure," I notice that he's getting uncomfortable. Maybe he thought I wasn't joking.
"Um, do you have any siblings?" he inquires.
"No I don't, It's only me and my dad;" I smile a little.
"Jonathan and I also just live with our father."
I nod. "Guess we have something in common then."
Alex doesn't feel like the type who's very into this whole small talk thing so I try to think about something else to do.
"Do you like ice cream?"
"No I hate it;" he gives me a serious look. I'm just about to protest when he adds "Just fucking around, I love ice cream."
"Perfect, because there's this awesome ice cream stall that you should really try."
"Okay, lead the way," he motions with his hand for me to keep walking.
We walk for another five minutes before we reach our destination.
"Here it is." I show him the place I was talking about. It's a small, blue ice cream stall with an old lady in it. She smiles at us and we both order our ice cream.
We sit down in the sand next to the water. It's already gotten darker and the sun is about to set. There aren't many people left on the beach, just a few couples here and there.
"Okay, tell me something that I wouldn't guess about you," I suggest.
He's quiet for a minute, like he's thinking of what to say.
"I've never tried sushi," he answers.
"What?" I'm left shocked by his answer, "That's like the best food in the world! You should really try it some time, I could recommend some good places," I tell him with a wink.
"You really are obsessed with me."
"Pfft, you wish," I roll my eyes at him.
"You don't need to hide it. It's kinda adorable," he teases me with a smirk.
I laugh. "I am not obsessed with you!"
"Whatever you say."
I shake my head at his response.
"What about you?" he asks.
"What? Is there's anything that you wouldn't guess about me?"
He nods and waits for my response. I think about it before answering.
"Well, I've never played golf?" I slowly respond.
He looks shocked.
"Okay here's what we're gonna do. I will try sushi," he points at himself, "if you let me teach you how to play golf, deal?"
