It's Friday night and I'm at Traci's house. She's posing in front of her big mirror and I'm laying on her bed. It's covered in a white fluffy bedspread and it has some pink pillows on it. The rest of her room is decorated in gold and pink. She has a huge window with an amazing view and a walk-in-closet. I'm so jealous of her.
"Do you prefer this dress to the first one?" she asks me. I sit up in her bed. She turns around and I get a better look of the dark blue dress that she's wearing. It's a short dress covered in lace.
"Yeah that one's better," I tell her.
"Lillian thought so too." Lillian is one of Traci's younger step sisters and Lillian practically adores her. "I'll take this one then."
We're getting ready for a small party at Boston's. He's invited some of his friends plus Traci, Georgi and I. I'm pretty sure that Kimberly could come too if she wanted to, but she probably won't.
"Anyway, how are things between you and Kimberly?" I ask.
She sighs and starts picking out some jewelry.
"Not getting any better." she mutters, "Rosie! Did you take some of my jewelry again?"
"I don't know what you're talking about!" I hear Rosie shout back. Traci shakes her head but I notice a little smile playing on her lips. Rosie, Traci's other step sister, is only seven and she has a thing for stuff that sparkles.
"Have you talked to her? Kimberly, I mean." I question.
"Nope, and I'm not going to until she tells me the truth," she states. "Can you help me with this?" She's holding a golden necklace. I stand up and walk over to her to help her fasten the it.
"You guys are kind of making a big deal over this whole thing. Maybe she just doesn't like to party?" I suggest. She turns around so that we're facing each other now.
"I'm not even mad anymore about her not showing up to my party. I just want her to be honest with me. She's one of my best friends." Her eyes look sad, like she's tired of all the arguments.
"What if she really is telling the truth?"
"She's not. I've known her long enough to see that," she says shaking her head. "We have to leave now."
She grabs her handbag and walks out of her room, leaving me standing there. I sigh deeply and follow her.
~
After walking for a bit we reach Boston's house. He opens the door and greets us. Traci immediately embraces him and kisses his cheek. When he notices me standing there he lets go of her and give me a hug too.
"Hi Lacey, glad you could make it," I give him a smile as we let go of each other.
"Come on, let's go inside. Georgi is already here."
He leads us inside his house and down to the basement. The walls are beige and a few white couches fill up the room. On one side of the room a big TV is located and a couple of speakers are standing on each side of it. Music is playing but it's not too loud, we can still talk normally.
There's about fifteen people in the room. Most of them I recognize but some of them I've never seen before.
"Lacey! Over here!" Georgi shouts. She's standing on the other side of the room with a drink in her hand. On my way to her I greet some people that I know. I also make sure to grab a drink for myself.
"I'm kind of surprised that you're not with Max" I say, raising my eyebrows at her.
"Oh please, I'm not always with him." she argues.
"You have been hanging out with him a lot lately," I say, giving her a meaningful look.
She grimaces at me. "I'm sorry for being a little bit distant," she apologizes.
"It's fine, I can see that you like him a lot." I give her a true smile.
"Thanks for understanding. You're a really good friend, you now that right?"
"Oh stop it," I roll my eyes at her.
She gives me a grin. She looks at something over my shoulder and I turn around to see what it is. Some new guys have just arrived and they're carrying a few bottles of what seems to be vodka.
"All right everyone!" Boston shouts, getting everyone's attention. "Let's do some shots!"
Everyone cheers, holding up their cups in the air.
~
When I've had a few shots I begin to feel a little bit dizzy. I'm sitting on one of the couches with Georgi. We're singing along to the music, laughing at our bad singing skills. A few guys are already drunk and Boston's definitely one of them. He has his arm around Traci and they're laughing together.
"Hey! Get your hands off her!" I hear someone shout. I turn to my right to see two guys facing each other. One of them seems like he's had quite a lot to drink. They're standing next to a girl who looks confused.
"I wasn't doing anything!" the other guy defends himself.
"Don't you think I've seen the way that you've been looking at her tonight? And then you dare touch her?! My girlfriend!" the first guy shouts.
"Dude, I didn't touch her. You're imagining things."
"Andy he's right, Stefan didn't do anything," the girl says. She puts her hand on Andy's shoulder but he shakes her off.
"Shut up," he says angrily. What a jerk.
"You think you can hit on my girlfriend?" Andy asks, stepping closer to Stefan. "You think that you're better than me?"
"I haven't said anything like that! You're just fucked up."
"What did you say?" Andy asks, taking one threatening step closer.
"I said," Stefan says between gritted teeth. "You're fucked up."
That does it for Andy because he pushes Stefan against a wall taking something out of his pocket. I have to narrow my eyes at the item that he's holding to see what it is. My heart practically stops when I recognize it.
A knife.
Andy is holding a freaking knife in his hand.
"Wow dude, calm down," Stefan says, trying to calm him down.
"Shut up. I'm not afraid to use this," Andy threatens.
"Okay guys, how about we solve this the right way?" Caiden inquires, stepping closer to the guys. He's one of Boston's closest friends.
Andy keeps his gaze on Stefan like he doesn't hear Caiden.
"Lacey," Georgi whispers to me. "Let's get out of here before this gets ugly. We don't want to be a part of this."
I nod and wobble as I stand up. Georgi takes my hand and we walk out of Boston's house quitely. Luckily, Andy doesn't notice us leaving.
"Are you fine on your own?" she asks me. "I'm gonna drive home, but it won't be safe for you since I'm not sober."
"Yeah yeah, I'm fine," I say, waving her away.
She gives me a skeptical look but decides to trust me. "Okay just be careful."
"Mhm" I mumble, beginning to walk. I have trouble focusing my eyes and it's harder to walk than I thought it would be.
"Shit," I say. I sit down on the ground and bring out my phone. I can't walk all the way home.
The light from the phone is so bright that I have to close my eyes. I open them slightly and go to my contacts. I can't see the names clearly and decide to just click on a random one.
"Hi it's me. Can you come and pick me up?"
