I'm scattered. My thoughts are all over the place all the time. What the fuck happened on the weekend? First I had a good time on the dance. Then Lacey left without announcing and I got a mental breakdown. She was with Liam at her house, talking, because Isabelle spilled a drink on her? I understand that she needed a ride home but why did Liam have to go inside?
I know that I'm overreacting and I feel shitty for the way I treated Lacey on Sunday. I was so pissed on this entire situation and I couldn't deal with it at that moment.
I have no idea if Lacey saw that I stepped out of Isabelle's car. But even if she did she wouldn't probably care.
Isabelle drove to her place the evening after the dance. We made out a little but I couldn't get my mind off Lacey. Isabelle noticed that I was off and we decided it would be better to just sleep.
It's Tuesday and I try to concentrate on the lesson but it feels impossible. Mrs. Gordon is explaining some stupid math equation on the whiteboard. She draws an arrow from one number to another in hope of making it more clear to us. The whole class stays silent and Mrs. Gordon shakes her head at us. Dylan, who is sitting next to me, blinks with a blank expression. He is relatively good at maths but he doesn't seem to get it either. Mrs. Gordon gives up at last and ends the lesson five minutes early.
I walk out of the classroom and Dylan follows swiftly after. He knows about the weekend's events and thinks that I'm acting like a little child.
"Have you apologized to her yet?" He asks as we make our way to his locker. Dylan doesn't make fun of the situation as he usually would do because he knows how it feels to be betrayed by a girl.
"What do I have to apologize for?" I reply with an angry voice.
"Um, perhaps for the fact that you acted like a dick," Dylan suggests, giving me a look, and stops in front of the locker '244'. He unlocks it and starts to search for a book.
"I didn't see her yesterday. Maybe she was making out with Liam all over again since he didn't show up either," I say and lean against the lockers next to Dylan's.
"I can't understand how she tolerated you in the first place," Dylan says and rolls his eyes.
I snort and give him a glare. Dylan closes his locker and turns away from me to look at something. I follow his gaze to two chicks giving each other death glares. My chin falls to the ground in the sight of Isabelle and Lacey arguing in the middle of the school corridor.
"Well there you have both of your girlfriends," Dylan states and glances back at me with an amused expression. Son of a bitch. Forget everything I said about him not making fun of the situation. I ignore him and start walking towards the girls.
Lacey is wearing basic blue jeans with a white sweater. Her shiny red hair is braided with a few strands loose in the front. Her hands are crossed over her chest and she seems annoyed.
I sneak behind a corner next to them and listen to the conversation. Dylan shakes his head at me and walks away.
"You have some nerve showing up at his house after everything," I hear Isabelle squeal.
"I told him the truth, something you must've missed," Lacey fires back. What the heck is going on?
"I'm gonna make your life a living hell," Isabelle spits through her teeth. Wow. I've never seen this side of Isabelle before. I just don't understand where all of this is coming from. Is it because Isabelle spilled her drink on Lacey by mistake?
"I'd like to see you try," Lacey says trying to sound confident.
"How's it going with you and Alex by the way? Are you a couple? Oh nevermind, the night I spend with him answers my question pretty well."
"And who was his homecoming date now again?" Lacey questions.
"You little slut!" Isabelle shouts and I step out of my hiding spot. Isabelle's eyes meet mine and she jumps back. Lacey looks at her confused.
"Fuck off Isabelle," I say. Lacey immediately turns around to look at me with her eyebrows up in the air. She and Isabelle both become red as hell. In normal circumstances I would enjoy the teenage drama but now when I'm in the middle of it myself it suddenly doesn't seem so appealing anymore.
"I-I, it's not what it looks like," Isabelle stutters and gives me a pleading look. "You know I wouldn't say stuff like that without a good reason."
"And what would the reason be then?" I ask with a monotonous tone, my eyes pendling between the two girls.
"Lacey, she... um," Isabelle starts and puts her hands in her pockets. "She said that you're an asshole who doesn't think of anyone else than yourself and that you're an alcoholic!"
That knocks the breath out of me. My head snaps back to the girl I have become very attached to. Her panicked face looks back at me.
"That's not true! I would never say anything like that!" Lacey defends herself and shakes her head.
I exhale and run my hand through my hair. Crap. I clench my fist and look up at the ceiling, trying to process everything I just heard.
"Alex?" Isabelle says softly and puts a hand on my shoulder.
"Get off me," I demand, keeping my voice flat, but Isabelle doesn't move.
"I know you like Lacey a lot and it's hard to hear that she betrayed you like that but-"
"Get off me!" I shout and shove her away. Isabelle stumbles to the floor. Every pair of eyes in the corridor are now on me and I realize what I've done. I've promised to never lay hands on a girl and now look at me. I feel blood rushing to my face.
"Shit, Isabelle are you alright?" I ask and rapidly make my way back to her. Her eyes are watery when she stands back up. I look at her concerned as she just stands there for a moment.
"You know what?" Isabelle's eyes meet mine and I see the ice in them. It doesn't take long until she slaps me right in the face and hurries away. The burning feeling quickly takes over my cheek and I grimace.
"Are you okay?" Lacey questions from behind.
"I deserved that," I state, keeping my gaze in front of me. "Did you... Did you really say that about me?"
"No, I promise I didn't. She just made it up," Lacey explains and I nod unsure.
"I'm sorry for everything," I apologize and turn back to face her. Lacey sighs, looking sad. I don't like that look on her. I want her to be happy, to smile. She has such a beautiful smile.
"I'm sorry too."
"You wanna skip the next lesson?" I ask her and glance at the clock. "I mean, we have already skipped the first four minutes."
"I guess it wouldn't hurt. I could use a break," Lacey says and I give her a tiny smile.
