"Last call for Dayton!" The deeply southern bus driver called, rousing me from my sleep. I missed the deep Brooklyn accents I was used to. With a sigh, I stood, careful not to wake Mae, and slided off the bus.
It was dark outside the vacant bus. Stars glittered like they never would in the city. "You sure y'all'll be fine out here on yer own?"
"Don't worry about me. I've got family out here."
"A'right. Y'all be careful, ya hear?"
"Take care!"
"Take care." He drives off, not looking back again. With a sigh, I wander the streets, looking for a park. There is none, but I find the next best thing- a forest. I slowly climb a tree and change Mae before snuggling in for the night. We can look for something better in the morning. In the morning.
