Chapter 69

The two men got off the yacht on Patong Beach. The beach itself was no longer crowded. They walked by a few people that looked like they were searching for something in the sand. One person held a flashlight, another held a long stick, and the last person had a red plastic pail in his hand.

Arthit was curious, but he didn't get any closer to see. As the two men walked further down the beach, there was another group doing the same. Kongpob was getting curious too, so he pulled Arthit along to get a better look.

Upon approaching the group of four, they greeted them.

"Hello. We are from out of town. May we know what you guys are doing?" Kongpob asked looking at the sand the man was poking with a stick.

"Oh, we are looking for crabs." A young boy said excitedly.

"Yeah, we've caught a lot already. Look mister." The girl about eight years old showed Kongpob and Arthit their blue pail.

"Oh my. That's a lot. Are you guys going to eat them?"

"Yes, my husband loves to stir-fry these with spicy tamarind sauce." The mother they assumed replied.

"Can we try?" Kongpob asked.

"Sure. Just look for any air bubbles underneath the sand. If you see bubbles, that means a crab is underneath breathing. Take the stick, and poke it. The crab will come running out. The light from the flashlight will stun it, and you need to immediately catch it before it runs away. Okay?" The father explained to the two men.

Kongpob and Arthit nodded as the two kids handed over their flashlight and a stick. They all walked together for no more than two meters before they came upon an air bubble.

Kongpob had the flashlight, so he gestured Arthit to poke the bubble with the stick. Arthit looked at the father, and he nodded. So, Arthit poked the bubble, and a crab immediately scampered out of it. Kongpob shone the light directly at the crab, and it froze from the shock. Arthit quickly picked it up from the sand.
