Arthit's POV
"Arthit! Arthit! Come out! The game is going to start!"
"Yeah! I'm coming!"
Ugh, I'll deal with this stuff later.
I quickly made my way to the living room. When I got there, I was yet again surprised by what I saw.
Thak and Kongpob both wore soccer jerseys representing opposite teams. Kongpob has a greasy slice of pizza hanging from his mouth. One hand holding a can of beer, and the other messing with the TV remote.
Oh no, the slice of pizza is about to fall. I quickly made a mad dash to catch it before it lands on the ground.
He looks surprised by me, but then laughed wholeheartedly. His laughter was so contagious that I started to laugh too.
Kongpob: Good catch. If that landed on the rug, it would have been tragic.
Arthit: Why?
I looked at him curiously.
Thak: Because he would never hear the end of it from Sachi.
Arthit: Oh.
That was all I said before I sat down, and joined them.
The two men are so different right now. Thak is sprawled on the other couch with a can of beer, completely relaxed. Nothing like the man a few hours ago.
Kongpob on the other hand is so animated and excited. Cheering and laughing without a care in the world. He has this childlike playfulness going. Raises his hand for a high-five every now and then, and fist bumps me.
Seeing him like this makes me forget about my problems at the moment. And there's this thing about the way he eats. He makes everything look so good. It's just pizza, but he makes it look like something much more amazing. He should probably be in food commercials. The way he sucks his fingers eating chicken wings made me want to eat them too.
Kongpob: Anybody want the last slice?
I shake my head, rubbing my now protruding belly.
Thak: It's all yours.
Thak burps loudly without a care.
Kongpob smiles before he takes a big bite of the last slice of pizza. I have lost count of how many slices he ate. We started with three large boxes of pizza. He had finished one whole sausage pizza very early on by himself. Then he gradually made his way to the second sausage pizza, and the pepperoni one too. He had a few wings and at least 4 cans of beer.
The question I have here is, where does it all go? I saw the man almost naked today with zero ounce of fat to him. He eats for a village, yet he can probably go pose naked for a magazine right now.
I need to follow his diet. Whatever he is doing works. Maybe I can do one of those before and after diet videos, and post it online. I can probably make some money from it. Chet fell for all those diet videos. We have a cabinet full of all sorts of miracle supplements.
Ugh, I need to stop thinking anything that has to do with that asshole.
"Yes!!!" Kongpob gets up on his feet shouting.
He enthusiasm and passion makes the game that much more fun.
Arthit: If you like watching games so much, then maybe you should watch them at sports bars. The atmosphere is usually very lively with a lot people.
Thak: Yeah, we've done that before, but it's too distracting. The ladies won't stop trying to approach him.
Kongpob: If I remember correctly, there were some trying to approach you too.
Kongpob rolls his eyes, and is now tossing a bag of chips back in his mouth, and licking his fingers again.
Arthit: Oh, isn't that a good thing?
Thak: Not when I'm married.
Arthit: What about you?
Kongpob shrugs his shoulders, and walks towards the fridge. He pulls out a two pints of ice cream, and comes back.
Kongpob: My team won again. This calls for celebratory ice cream.
Thak snatches a pint right away, and starts digging in by the spoonful.
Thak: Rum raisin, my favorite!
Kongpob: Fine. Arthit and I will share the chocolate here.
I was going to protest as I was too damn full already, but before I can even say anything. Kongpob shoved a spoonful in my mouth.
Mmm...it really is good. I always thought chocolate was just boring like vanilla. When there's so many flavors to choose from, why pick something that's always there? But I guess some times there's a reason why these are classics.
Leaning close to Kongpob, I take my spoon to scoop another spoonful, hardly containing my smile. I can't believe how happy this ice cream is making me. I should buy tubs and tubs of this when I get money from the bank. I'm going through a breakup after all.
Kongpob: Good right? It's my favorite. I bought them this morning. We have to finish these tonight.
Arthit: Why? Why tonight?
Thak: Sachi. She would nag for at least a week if she found out. I need to dispose all this evidence tonight.
Kongpob: Yeah, she can get pretty scary.
Thak: Tell me about it.
Thak chuckles and pretends to shiver.
I'm curious who this Sachi is, but I'm pretty much a stranger, so it's probably better that I don't ask.
We continued to eat the ice cream, and before we knew it, we had gotten to the bottom of the pint. Kongpob and I were like playing spoon hockey fighting for the last of it.
Thak gets up, and comes back with a giant trash bag. In a blink of an eye, he had cleared the table of all the pizza boxes, plates and cans. He wipes everything down, and plucks the spoons Kongpob and I were holding from our hands. And just like that, all the evidence of tonight was gone. So efficient.
All the sudden, Thak looked serious again. He straightened up himself while still holding the trash bag in his hands looking a Kongpob.
Thak: Alright sir. I will be going now. If you need anything tomorrow, just call me.
Kongpob: No, Thak. Just enjoy your day off tomorrow. Goodnight.
Thak: Goodnight sir. Goodnight Arthit.
Arthit: Goodnight Thak.
I look at Kongpob who is now stretching his back. I take that as a cue to call it a night.
Arthit: I guess I'm going to turn in too. Thanks for tonight.
Kongpob: No problem. It was fun, and my team won.
Arthit: Yes, it was fun.
Kongpob: Well, have a goodnight.
Arthit: You too, have a goodnight.
I walked back to my room feeling a lot lighter than I have been for a long time. Although, the scale would probably show the contrary.
I really did not expect myself to have such a fun time with complete strangers. Kongpob made me feel like we were old buddies or something, and not a guy he just randomly picked up yesterday. He is so easy going and confident.
Even Thak was surprisingly relaxed instead of the strict and professional man that he was a few hours ago.
It really feels like we are friends.
