I.
Times weren't easy nor were fine. The joy she once had was all gone. She was just a shadow of the woman she once had been. Friends complained she had disappeared but that had a reason, a reason she didn't want to talk about or to confess. Her heart was shattered, broken in a million tiny pieces. She was unable to be fixed or probably she didn't want to be fixed.
It had been her decision to end the relationship, but she could not vision how hard her life would become. That's when her days lost joy and it seemed like the sun didn't shine anymore. London became such a small city that she avoided going out. Her circle of friends was of no help for all her friends were his as well and she feared he'd be there when she'd meet them.
Months were gone but it all seemed fresh. It still hurt like it had been yesterday that she told him they should be over. It still hurt that he didn't try to convince her otherwise. Jack just accepted her decision and closed himself in his bubble. He always had been like that and that is why she felt shaken away from his life many times. Most of the times.
They had fallen in love for each other quite fast. She never felt that in love with anyone else. Diana had had many boyfriends, but she knew Jack had been her first real love. They met at a bar one night when she was in a serious relationship and so was, he. They had the same interests, like the same type of music; their families were from the same city up in the North that she believed she had found her twin soul. She couldn't have been more mistaken.
It didn't take long until they admitted they were in love and they both had to go through the hard path of breaking up long term relationships to be together. She thought she had found the love for life. That kind of love that everyone wants to find even the ones who say love doesn't matter. Diana knew she was the type that searched for that love and she searched time and time again. Jack and she had been together for a couple of years, but she had concluded that his life and hers didn't match. The fairy tale she longed to live began to dismantle as time went by and Diana concluded Jack was still not the one.
He'd drink too much. Not that he was violent, he had never been violent to her, but she still felt that he drank too much. He never talked to her about his problems or things that were going through his mind. She always had to guess if he was alright or not. With time she learned, she knew him well, but it was hard to make him talk. Jack traveled too much due to his job which made her spend so much time alone, contributing even more to her loneliness and when he'd come back, she never really felt he was coming back to her. He never really made her feel like she was a full part of his life and one day, exhausted, she called it a day.
It is hard when you break up with someone but it's even harder when you have to break up and you are still in love with that someone. It was like that for Diana. She still loved Jack with all her heart when she left the house where they both lived but she could not go on living like that. As months passed by, her love didn't subside nor did she let go, she still loved him as strongly as the day she left, and she knew she had to do something about it.
"I cannot believe that you are embarking on such an adventure Di." Emma said helping her with her bags.
"It had to be done. I had to do it this way." Diana said.
"Yeah...you are running away."
"Maybe...no I am really running away but I have to go. I am going crazy here. You don't know how I feel when I see Jack. I love him still..." She confessed to her best friend.
"We all know that..." Emma told her. "...but you have your whole life here. Your friends are here, your parents are here, and your career is here..."
"Believe me Emma!" Diana exclaimed. "I tried and I tried very hard but Jack lives in the same neighborhood as I do. I sometimes see him when I am crossing the road. I want to stop seeing him and loving him. Gosh...I so need to stop being in love with him and I feel that while I am here, I won't be able to let go. I have memories everywhere I go, and I am afraid that if he asks me to go back that I am weak to say no."
