San Francisco

Megan was entering the private beach that led to Lars's house after spending part of her night making love to Mark when she spotted a white Tesla parked near the dune that anticipated the private beach and their isolated house. For a few seconds, she slowed the pace down trying to recognize the car, but it was brand new she could tell. She sniffed but no familiar smell reached her nose and then she stopped walking trying to hear some heartbeat. For a few seconds, she frowned, there was no heartbeat to be heard. Megan smiled for an instant, either a couple was making love far from the place where she was standing and left the car there and then, the second thought, made her smile fade away, a vampire could be around. She remembered Mark had left her there, though strayed from where she was that moment. Megan looked around trying to see some shadow or hear some faint noise, but all she heard was then the door of the car opening. She shuddered; a vampire was inside that car and she initially felt but decided to ignore her accurate instincts. It was unusual for another vampire to be around their area.

Her heart started beating fast for she had no clue what that vampire was doing there, clearly waiting for her. Her brief affair with Mark came to her mind, but it was impossible they'd know about it so soon. Though there was a danger that vampire had seen her with him, after all it had been just a few minutes that he had left her on the road.

As the figure approached, a sense of relief started to invade her for she recognized the man and smiled. "Nate?" She asked just to be sure. It sure looked like him.

"It's me, yes." The vampire approached her, pallid... completely pallid. "You seem scared." He commented when he was right in front of her.

She shook her head devaluating his last comment. "Jesus... have you fed?" Megan asked him instead as he got even closer to her. "You look horrible!" She added, though Nate was very hard to look horrible at any time.

She had had a crush on him back in time, but the vampire he worked for made it all impossible for her. She could never engage on anything with Nate even a small adventure. Megan tried to disguise the anxiety she was feeling that moment. It was not usual for Nate to visit her. He was Benedict's messenger in San Francisco. Something was happening, or she had already been discovered. These last hypothesis could not be the truthful one. Her gut was telling her it was not, but it would still be serious.

"Benedict wants to talk to you." Nate told her with no further notice.

Megan shuddered inside, but it didn't show that on the outside. She could swear her heart stopped beating that moment. Benedict... he truly scared her.

"When?" She asked, for she had to obey the rules. She wouldn't play the strong one with Benedict when all she wanted to revenge her parents. She would always play along.

"Now..." Nate said looking in her eyes with his deep blue ones.

Megan frowned. "Now?" Nate grabbed her arm and started pulling her to the car. "Hey!" Megan protested for he used some force. "Isn't it daytime in London?" She inquired. Nate looked at her.

"He's in his bunker..." He smiled. "You should know that." Nate told her. Megan rolled her eyes. "Get in the backseat." Nate instructed and Megan complied by sitting comfortably and leaning with her back against the black leather seat.

"New car?" She asked him smiling. Nate looked at her by the corner of his eye, searching for something in his bag.

"Got me some treat..." He responded without looking at her, but she could see a soft smile across his puffy lips. Megan went silent when she saw Nate grab an iPad.

"Do you know what he wants?" Megan asked while she watched him go over WhatsApp and his contacts to call Benedict.

"You know he doesn't say anything to us." He responded looking at her briefly. The noise of a call started to be heard and Nate put the iPad in her hands. "I am outside. He doesn't like us to hear his private conversations as you know. I am taking the time to feed. If you finish before I am here, you simply leave the device on the seat. Good night, Megan." Nate smiled in the end.
