I.
San Francisco...
Megan looked one last time at herself in the mirror. The black strapless dress adorned her perfectly. It let people guess all her curves in her body but not in a cheap way, in a very sexy way. On her collar bone, a silver necklace that had belonged to her mother, the matching earrings had been lost on the trip to San Francisco when she had fled from England more than a century ago. She had let her hair fall lose that time and wore barely any makeup. It was so natural it would be very hard to tell if she was wearing it or not. Megan liked simple enhancements. She grabbed the bottle of CK Summer Breeze and splashed some over her neck, collarbone and wrists. The same places her mother had taught her where perfume should go. A smiled crossed her face as she remembered Diana putting some cologne on her back in the century and explaining as if she was a grown-up woman where she should smell better. After, she put the bottle back on her drawer and looked at the mirror one more time. Her heart began to race at the thought. For a moment she wished her heart didn't beat like the regular vampires, for she didn't know how to deal with the emotions Mark made her feel. Megan took a last breath and got away from the mirror, to sit on the bed and put on the silver high heel sandals, then she grabbed her matching purse and got out of the bedroom.
As she climbed the stairs, she could hear Lars and Angela talking and laughing. A smile crossed her face realizing how happy and in love they still were. It is true she had been told that a vampire, once falls in love, it is forever, but the story is so romantic that she finds it hard to believe. Also, it makes her afraid of falling in love for forever, as ironic as it may be, seems to her a very long time.
"Happy are we?" Megan interrupted the couple that she perceived was dancing in the middle of the living room to the slow dance playing on the radio. That explained the laughter she had heard before.
Lars let go of Angela's waist and let his eyes travel along Megan, from toe to head. "Wow..." He blurted for it was unusual to see her that well-dressed.
"Where are you going?" Angela asked surprised herself. Megan began to feel insecure about the outfit, maybe she had exaggerated. Her heart raced again.
"Is it too much?" She asked instead, letting her insecurities rise to a red flag.
Angela shrugged. "It depends..." She said uncertain, but for sure that had to be with a man.
"Where are you going?" Lars insisted. Megan was a very casual girl. Careful with her appearance and sex appeal but never too directed to a more formal look.
"Dinner..." She simply said but Lars curled an eyebrow as he heard the word.
"With whom?" Angela shot approaching Megan. "Megan.." Angela said looking in her blue eyes.
Being a woman, even if she had been her entire existence with Lars, she knew a man must have been in the picture to make Megan dress so neatly. She had never seen her being so careful with her looks, though she had some vanity. That night she looked stunning and the dress was new, Angela could tell.
"A friend." She said, for it was usual for her to go out with friends.
"Meg..." Angela said insisting on the truth. "A friend?" She said with the most inquisitive glare ever, which caused Megan to look away, unable to take her stare.
Lars approached the two women too. "Who is this friend?" He asked not with a recriminating tone but a worried one. Megan rolled her eyes and crossed her arms in front of her chest. "Meg... who is this person?" He also insisted.
"Someone I met." She responded at Lars's insistence.
The two of them exchange a glare in absolute silence. Megan saw Lars's eyes narrow a bit and his nostrils opening as he processed her words. When a vampire opens his nostrils it is never a good sign.
