I.
As the door of her bedroom closed, Diana sat on the bed feeling the mattress go down as she did so. Her heart was running so fast she took a hand to her chest and rubbed it lightly. She gasped a little taking deep breaths trying to calm down and though she was searching for a reason, she didn't know why she had become so restless. She lied back and stared at the ceiling. She was at a distant country, in a strange house with a stranger in it. Tears came to her eyes. Maybe that was all the rush she was feeling.
"Oh...enough..." Diana said cleaning her eyes with the back of her hands and sat up right away.
Then she got up and put the first suitcase on the bed and opened the doors of the wardrobe. She began to put her clothes in it and organizing the drawers as well. All her makeup and perfumes she took to the bathroom. She put the books she had brought on the shelves near the window and the few cd's she had brought with her. She then realized that she needed a desk to work and to put her computer. Done, she sat on the bed clueless of what to do. She should feel exhausted from the long flight but strangely she didn't, only jet lagged. She got up and went to the living room.
"Is there a supermarket near?" She asked Pamela who was sat on the couch watching TV. "I need to buy shampoo and conditioner...you know I didn't bring these things because I already had so many things to carry."
"Yes." Pamela said. "There's one just around the corner. It's not that big but for little things like that it's enough."
"I might be going there then." Diana said.
"Do you want some company?"
"No...really. You are watching a movie and I'll be fine just tell me which way to go."
"You turn right when you get out and then first right and you'll see it. The neighborhood is very quiet and safe too, don't worry."
"I was thinking that I also should get my driving license because mine is from the UK and I am not allowed to drive here." She continued.
"There's none here but there's one near the place where you are going to work. Still...you can catch the train to the university. There's a station down the road where the garage is and goes straight there. BART is safe and fast."
"Ok...you'll teach me all that later. I am little startled at the moment so many new things I even feel my chest glued to my back like I can't breathe." She laughed again.
"Are you feeling better?" Pamela asked. "You turned pale there. Maybe you should rest instead of going to the supermarket."
Diana shook her head. "I'm fine really. I don't know...maybe it's just stress. I am so scared right now I can't even explain."
"Of what?" Pamela asked.
"Nothing special. I think it's just the fear of starting something new. I was really excited to come here, and I am still glad I am here don't get me wrong but at the same time it's like I am starting everything from scratch, and I am afraid things don't turn as I expect."
"Are your expectations that high?" Pamela smiled and made Diana laugh.
"No...Human beings fear novelty so that is where I'm at the moment. That's all."
Pamela got up and rubbed her arm sympathetic with her words. "I don't know exactly what brought you here, but it will be alright. People you are going to work with are like family and since you worked with cars before it won't make that difference. It's just a different type of cars. Aston Martin is awesome but what we do in there is even more awesome." She winked and Diana laughed again. She liked Pamela. She seemed trustful and friendly.
