San Francisco

The wind whipper moving back and forward against the windshield and the thick drops of rain tapping on it was his only music as he drove. The tires hissing as they ate the asphalt drenched with water. Sometimes a more violent gust of wind tried to push the Jeep aside. It made it jerk. Other than that, there was heavy stillness inside his Jeep. Eyes on the road, left hand gripping firmly on the steering wheel, while the other managed the gear. James looked ahead trying to focus on the road and ignoring how his body was freezing every minute. His clothes soaking wet. His hair still dripping down his face, then some drops falling down on his jeans. He still drove to the unique place where he knew he would find the peace he needed that moment and maybe some wise words too. He seek advice, not only distance. His emotions were running wild that moment and there was only one another woman who could curb them down.

Inside his mind the words shared on his porch echoed time and time again. Twirling inside his brain as an echo. He didn't want to be away from her at all. He just thought it was better not to be around since they were fighting and nothing good would come out of that. They needed to find their own balance after knowing what their desires were. James told Diana his truth and she had told him hers. Now, they needed clarity and not yelling. Certainly, they did not need resentment. That is why he decided to step away. Thus, they would seek shelter in their own mind and find their own space to absorb the issue they had to settle.

Soon, the familiar road, surrounded by naked trees now, began to appear in front of his eyes. Though it was still day, the street lights were on, for the day was incredibly dark. A vast shield of dark grey covered the usual blue sky. James had called her before stopping by, so she wouldn't be scared by his sudden appearance. Soon, her house appeared on his left and he turned to her lawn. She was on the porch waiting for him. Just like in the streets, she had the lights of the porch turned on and he could see her pretty well, while he parked the car in front of one of the garages.

He noticed how she looked concerned. Morgan knew it was not like him to appear unexpectedly. They had moved their Sunday lunch, for she knew he would be hunting with Cliff and now he was there. She waited for him to approach her with her hands folded in front of her dark blue dress. James got out of the car and smiled at her, just to leave her a little less tense. Then, he grabbed his backpack and locked the Wrangler.

"Hi, mom." He kissed her cheek as he got near her.

"Jamie..." She breathed noticing he was drenched. "Come inside... you need to take these clothes off." Morgan said opening the front door immediately.

She took off her white coat and hung it, for inside the house the heaters were on and it was formidably warm. James got rid of his coat too.

"Give me that." Morgan said grabbing his coat. Then, she looked in his eyes. "It's soaking wet." She commented but he knew she was trying to study him.

"I need to change, mom." He said knowing what he had to tell her was not going to take a minute and he was freezing. He needed a hot bath.

"Go upstairs." She pointed to the stairs as if she was ordering a kid. "Have a warm bath." Then, she looked at his backpack. "I assume you have dry clothes in there?" She asked looking in his eyes.

James nodded." I do." He said talking low.

"We'll talk later." She told him knowing something was wrong.

He showed up in her house by surprise, carrying clothes and looking down. Because she knew her son's glare and James was sad. Something happened and she knew it was related to Diana.

"I won't take long." He told her and bent over her to kiss her cheek.

Morgan took a hand to his face and looked in his eyes. "It's going to be alright." She told him. And she offered him her comforting smile.
