Mikayla woke up with a weight on her chest, the memory of the event, that is to come, filled her head. She moved slowly throughout her usual routine, applying makeup and curling her hair before going down for her breakfast in her pyjamas. The funeral starts in a hour, Mikayla wanted to eat before putting on her dress. Peppy had set the table, Avery sat in her normal seat in her pyjamas eating, Mikayla sat across from her sister. They didn't speak to one another, they just ate in silence, Fergal joins the silence, taking his place at the head of table. In flew Barcher with the daily prophet and a bundle of letters. Mikayla put the letters with the ones that had arrived yesterday, as Fergal read the prophet, he told them what is going on around the rest of Britain. "You need to get dressed, we'll be leaving in 15 minutes." The girls stood up and rushed to their rooms, Avery brought her dress to Mikayla's room so they could zip each other up. Mikayla pulled on a black long-sleeved dress that hit the floor, covered in lace. Avery wore a off-the-shoulder dress that grazed the floor, it had flower petals sewed onto the skirt of the dress. Mikayla put in golden earrings, slid on black pomps.
The girls stood in the local church, listening to the priest praising their mother, talking how kind she was and all the achievements she's made during her life. One of her colleagues got up to say a eulogy about Enya. "....Enya would've argued that her greatest achievement wasn't becoming the head of the Spell Damage department at St. Mungo's but that it was having her two beautiful daughters, Avery and Mikayla. She adored her girls, she would often tell us stories about the pair that would probably embarrass them way too much today. She lit up as she spoke proudly about their adventures and how accepting they were to everyone. I'd like to introduce Mikayla who is going to say a few words for her mother." Everyone clapped, Mikayla handed the music sheets to the pianist before she stood in front of the microphone. "Our mother was probably the strongest woman that ever lived, when she told us she was sick, she kept a smile on her face. She always made sure that we were happy in life and she was happy that she had the chance to say goodbye to us. She asked me to sing a song for her, so this song is called Supermarket Flowers... and this is for the most beautiful woman I've ever known, and the best mother someone could have."
"I took the supermarket flowers from the windowsill. I threw the day old tea from the cup. Packed up the photo album that you had made. Memories of a life that's been loved." She look at her sister as she sang. She then turned to her father. "Took the get well soon cards and stuffed animals. Poured the old ginger beer down the sink. Dad always told me, "don't you cry when you're down." But mum, there's a tear every time that I blink."
"Oh I'm in pieces, it's tearing me up, but I know. A heart that's broke is a heart that's been loved." She sang to the whole crowd, a tear fell from each eye she found.
Mikayla stared at her mother's portrait, "So I'll sing Hallelujah. You were an angel in the shape of my mum. When I fell down you'd be there holding me up
Spread your wings as you go. And when God takes you back he'll say Hallelujah. You're home. I fluffed the pillows, made the beds, stacked the chairs up. Folded your nightgowns neatly in a case. John says he'd drive then put his hand on my cheek. And wiped a tear from the side of my face" The tears began streaming down Mikayla's face, as she tried to prevent her voice from shaking."I hope that I see the world as you did cause I know. A life with love is a life that's been lived.
So I'll sing Hallelujah. You were an angel in the shape of my mum. When I fell down you'd be there holding me up, spread your wings as you go. And when God takes you back we'll say Hallelujah, you're home. Hallelujah
You were an angel in the shape of my mum
You got to see the person that I have become
spread your wings. And I know that when God took you back he said Hallelujah. You're home"The crowd erupted in claps and tears, Mikayla returned to her sister and dad. She wrapped her arms around them, comforting them as they all cried. Someone else stood up, Mikayla didn't recognise them. "I don't know how I could follow that but Enya asked me to read this out to her family.. Dear my beautiful family, I realise that you're probably heartbroken and angry all wrapped in one. But I couldn't move on until I said that you three were and always will be my whole world. I need you to stay strong for each other and live a happy life. You deserve to everything in the world, Fergal. I grant you permission to move on, go fall in love again. But don't move on until you have fully accepted your feelings. Avery, make smart choices, take care of your dad and sister, they're going to need you but also take care of yourself, make sure you heal. Mikayla, fight for the right thing. I know I can rely on you to stop your dad and sister from falling into a hole. You need to learn to trust others more, no matter how much it hurts when it breaks, you need to fight for both your friends and family. I love you more than anything in the world, and in the afterworld. Stay safe, stay strong and open up your hearts. - your loving wife and mother, Enya." The woman handed Mikayla the letter, with a sad smile.
They all stood in the O'Brien's back garden under the large Cherry Blossom tree, near the lakeside. Mikayla threw in a white rose into the grave where her mother laid. She stood with the Weasley's, Fred placed a comforting hand on Mikayla's shoulder. She smiled up at the tall red head before watching her dad and friends put the dirt in the grave covering her mother. Avery and Mikayla held hands watching as they cried. "She's still with us you know." Mikayla turned to her sister who looked at her weirdly, "the ones we love never leave us, they're forever in our hearts." Avery smiled and nodded at her sister. They both looked up at the sky, there was a cloud in the shape of a love heart.
Soon everyone left the manor, Mikayla and Avery spent the day, laying next to her their mother's grave, watching the cloud filled sky, pointing out the different shapes, laughing together when they see a ridiculous looking cloud. "Everything is going to change when you leave." Avery turned to sister, Mikayla nodded, she smiled at her sister, "Even us but we'll always have each other's back."
