Mikayla was beside Dean and Hermione during Study hall, she was helping him and Neville, who sat across from her, with their charms homework while she heard Pansy's toad-like voice fill her eyes. "Does it hurt terribly, Draco?" Mikayla rolled her eyes at the boy was in a sling while she looked as if it never happened, "It comes and goes. Still, I consider myself lucky." Avery nodded at the Malfoy's response, "That was good of Mikayla to shield you." Draco looked like he was about the shoot the girl he was dating. "If anything, all she gave me was a spare minute, Madam Pomfrey said I would've lost my arm if it had another minute to get me." Avery made eye contact with her sister as Malfoy spoke, Mikayla shrugged off his comment as he said that he can't do homework for weeks. "Listen to that idiot, he's really laying it on thick isn't he." Harry told Ron that it's good that Hagrid didn't get fired. Hermione tells them that Lucius is furious and that it isn't gonna be the last time they hear about the subject. "O'Brien got it worse off, you don't hear her moaning." Alicia speaks from a few seats down, Mikayla stayed silent, "no one would believe that idiot right?" Katie says sending daggers towards Draco, as she questioned the group. "Well he's trying to get the most amount of sympathy from those snakes he can." George scoffs staring over at the Slytherins.
"He's been sighted! He's been sighted!" Seamus yells putting the Daily Prophet in front of Mikayla and Dean. "Sirius Black." "Dufftown? That's not far from here." Mikayla read the paper and informed the other Gryffindors as they all swarm around the table. "You don't think he'd come to Hogwarts? Do you?" Neville asked the group frankly, Mikayla sends Harry a worried look. Seamus doesn't comfort the round faced boy, as he says that he's gotten past the dementors before so, nothing is stopping him from doing it again. "That's right, Black could be anywhere. It's like trying to catch smoke, like trying to catch smoke with your bare hands." Bem spoke mysteriously, he gives Mikayla the creeps slightly, he has a enigmatic vibe about him. "Alright boys, don't be scaring everyone, why the hell would Black come here?" Fay Dunbar speaks from behind Seamus, the foursome knew exactly why Black is on his way to Hogwarts but obviously couldn't say anything.
The group went silent, before Cormac McLaggen made an appearance behind Fred and George and in front of Mikayla. "Mikayla O'Brien is it?" McLaggen asked staring at the girl, Mikayla nodded smiling at the pretty boy. "I'm Cormac McLaggen." Mikayla shook his extended hand, Fred was sending McLaggen daggers of hatred. "I couldn't help but notice, how beautiful you are and wanted to know if you'd come on a date with me sometime?" Mikayla looked at the boy confused at his choice of liking her, but she didn't want to question it. "Sure, what did you have in mind?" Mikayla spoke sweetly and stared in the older boys eyes, capturing a hint of joy in his nature. "First Hogsmeade trip, meet me at Honeydukes." Mikayla nodded confirming the plans of the date, McLaggen puffed out his chest bidding farewell before walking back over to his friends. Mikayla and Hermione jumped up leaving the Gryffindor table and rushing to the closest girls bathroom. "I'm going on a date with Cormac McLaggen, a fourth year..." Mikayla repeated the situation that she had just agreed to. "I know! He's the perfect guy to see if Fred will get jealous too!" Hermione giggled. Mikayla heart skipped a beat, she might finally find out if Fred likes her in a more than friends way or not.
A couple of weeks later, the foursome along with their fellow Gryffindors arrived in Defence Against the Dark Arts class. Professor Lupin however was no where to be seen. Everyone took their seats, Mikayla sat next to Hermione, in the second row in the third column. Harry and Ron sat in the column beside them, they all began pulling out their books. "Good afternoon, would you please put all your books back in your bags. Today's will be a practical lesson. You will only need your wands." The students followed Lupin's instruction, confused yet curious what their lesson would contain, considering their last practical lesson in DADA was when Professor Lockhart released a cage full of Cornish pixies into the room, causing chaos. "Right then", Lupin claps, "if you'd follow me." Everyone stood up, wands in hands following their Professor out of the room, the foursome walked together conjuring up different theories about what their practical lesson may include. Professor Lupin had led them to the staff room, the place was deserted apart from Professor Snape who shuffled out quickly. "Possibly no one's warned you, Lupin, but this class contains Neville Longbottom. I would advise you not to entrust him with anything difficult. Not unless Miss Granger or Miss O'Brien are hissing instructions in his ears." Snape informed Lupin, Mikayla and Hermione rolled their eyes as Snape brings up the time, the girls helped Neville save his potion from failing. Gryffindor lost 5 points because of it, and he's really upped his ante with bullying Neville, the round faced boy was burning a bright red at Snape's comment. Lupin raised his eyebrows at the Professor's words, he smiles as he told Snape that he had hoped Neville would assist him todays lesson and that he believes that Neville will perform admirably. Snape's lip curled into an almost smile at this statement before he left, closing the door with a slam.
"Intriguing isn't it? Would anyone like to venture a guess as to what is inside?" Lupin asked as the students stared at an old cupboard that shook by itself, "That's a Boggart, that is." Dean Thomas answers looking at the cupboard shake. Lupin asks if anyone can tell him what a boggart looks like. Mikayla and Hermione both flung their arms up, "Miss O'Brien?" Mikayla takes a deep breath after Lupin calls on her, "No one knows, sir. Boggarts are shape-shifters. They take the shape of whatever a particular person fears the most. That's what makes them so-" Lupin cut Mikayla off, "So terrifying, yes, yes, yes... Luckily, a very simple charm exists to repel a Boggart." The wardrobe shook violently, "Let's practice it now, without wands, please. After me, Riddikulus." The class repeats the spell Lupin spoke. He then goes on and explains how to truly get rid of a boggart you need to laugh.
