Ron and Hermione were fighting because Scabbers had gone missing and Ron has conclude that Hermione's cat Crookshanks has eaten him. The foursome decided to join Hagrid at the lake, he was still wearing his hairy suit from Buckbeak's hearing. Hermione asked Hagrid how it went as he skipped rocks, "Well, first off, the committee members took turns talking about why we were there. And then I got up and did my piece. Said how Buckbeak was a good hippogriff, always cleaned his feathers. And then Lucius Malfoy got up. Well, you can imagine, he said Buckbeak was a deadly and dangerous creature who would kill you as soon as look at you." Hagrid described the events of the hearing, "And then?" Mikayla asked, egging Hagrid to go on, "And then he asked for the worst, did old Lucius." Ron ensured that they weren't sacking Hagrid, which he confirmed that he still had a job. "Buckbeak's been sentenced to death!" Hagrid cries, Mikayla stood in place stunned by the situation. They were going to kill a creature that defended itself, she was confused as to why she wasn't summoned to the hearing, since she was involved in the attack. The foursome's morale has been completely abolished since their last chat with Hagrid, Draco Malfoy is the reason an innocent creature is being murdered.
Mikayla asked Professor McGonagall to let her go see Professor Dumbledore, McGonagall accepted the request leading Mikayla straight to the headmaster. She once again didn't pay attention to the password, she was too busy trying to figure out what she was going to say. "Headmaster, Miss O'Brien is here to speak to you." McGonagall announces, Dumbledore accepts the inquiry, inviting both of them in. "I'm here to talk about the sentence that has been placed on Buckbeak the Hippogriff." McGonagall gasp, unsure how Mikayla would've found out about the sentence, "And what is your concern, Miss O'Brien?" Dumbledore questioned calmly, "Well, it is completely unfair, Buckbeak can't defend himself and Lucius Malfoy is a horrific human being. I want to know why I wasn't called into the hearing because I got hurt a lot more than Draco." Mikayla ranted passionately filled with anger and sadness. Dumbledore nodded smilingly at the student where Professor McGonagall was stunned to hear the girl speak so much. "Buckbeak had Hagrid to defend him." Dumbledore informed Mikayla of known knowledge, "Yes but Hagrid already has a record that doesn't really give him a right to defend any creature, they used the same record against him last year! I wish there was something I could do to fix this injustice but who is going to listen to a 13 year-old girl?" Mikayla sighs loudly, talking a seat in the armchair in front of Dumbledore's desk, "You seem to already know the powerlessness of a child's opinion, how terrible it is. I may offer you some guidance Miss O'Brien, write a letter to Minister Fudge, tell him your thoughts and if he chooses to ignore you, it'll be up to the universe to decide Buckbeak's fate." Mikayla thanked her Professors before leaving the office, "She's just like a young Enya." McGonagall chuckles in disbelief, Mikayla puffs out her chest making her way back to the common room.
Mikayla arrived in the Gryffindor common room, she grabbed some parchment, a quill and ink,
'Dear Minister of Magic,
My name is Mikayla O'Brien, I am a current Hogwarts student who was involved in the attack of Draco Malfoy, from the Hippogriff, Buckbeak. I shielded Draco from the hippogriff sustaining much worse injuries that him and wasn't called to the trial of Buckbeak. Professor Hagrid had warned us not to insult the proud creature as it could be the last thing we do. Draco Malfoy ignored this instruction, in the hopes of getting Hagrid fired, and insulted the sweet beast. Buckbeak had previously allow me and Harry Potter to fly on his back around the castle grounds, neither of us felt in danger one bit as we respected the creature and it respected us.
I'm writing to you to discuss the injustice of Buckbeak's life sentence, in hopes that you'll find mercy for him as it was wizards error that caused the incident. I also believe that you are too quick in arresting and charging the innocent to look as though you are doing something.
Last year, you arrested Hagrid for opening the chamber of secrets that was proven that he had never done. You don't have a distinction of what's right and wrong. We must choose everyday of our lives if we are going to do what's right or what's easy and I believe you and your jury are making the wrong decision.
As for Lucius Malfoy, who clearly has connections in the ministry and plenty of money made sure that poor Buckbeak didn't stand a chance. His son Draco, shares the same prejudice as him. They believe they are better than everyone else because they're rich and pure-blood. Using offensive terms such as blood traitors and mud bloods on a daily basis. If money can outweigh justice then I am going to make it my mission to become Mistress of Magic when I'm of age. To right your wrongs and make sure those who pay, pay the right way.
I urge you Fudge, right your wrongs before they come back to bite you. Save an innocent life from slaughter and the rewards will be grand.
Regards,
Mikayla O'BrienMikayla reread the letter multiple times before finally deciding she was happy with it. She put the letter in an envelope sealing it with an O'Brien wax seal. Addressing it specifically for the Minister of Magic, Cornelius Fudge before heading to the owlery to send Selene off. She watched as her owl glided through the sky, before making her way to Gryffindor Tower.
When Mikayla returned to the common room, she bumped into Harry, who was holding the map Fred and George had given him. Harry explained what he was doing, and pointing out the name Peter Pettigrew, Mikayla told him, she was going with him. "I know more spells, just incase we run into danger. Plus it was my dad who supposedly killed Peter, I deserve to know whether or not it's true." Harry reluctantly agreed to let the blonde tag along on the nights adventures. The quest of Peter Pettigrew.
