Chapter 18: Destiny

I continue making my way to Jellal. I don't know, but I knew exactly where to find him. The place where Erza and I saved him from. I make my way there and walk in.

"Don't tell me the games over?" Jellal teases.

"You find this game fun? Killing and hurting others?" I ask him. He doesn't answer that and walks in front of me and says, "It's been a long time hasn't it, N/N?"

"It sure has." I say. I also inform him, "Sho and the others are no longer under your influence."

"That's fine. Now that the Tower of Heaven is completed, I have no need for them." Jellal shrugs it off. I point my sword at him.

"I've come here to bring you back to your senses, Jellal. You're not my brother!" I shout at him. I wanted to drop the sword and run to him. Hug him. "You're the only family I have left... please stop this." I drop the sword. He comes over and picks up the sword, pointing it at my heart.

"In 10 minutes the etherion will blast." Jellal informs me. I take the sword in my hands and make it touch me.

"Do it... Jellal. Do it, you coward!" I spit at him. He chuckles and drops the sword to his side. "I have to keep you alive for the sacrifice." I wipe my tears and fix myself up.

"I'll keep you distracted for the next 10 minutes. When that blasts hit, no sacrifices will be made. Zeref won't be resurrected. It'll only be us when it hits." I say and get ready to fight him. He gets ready too.

"How about we enjoy our last 7 minutes here? Catch up?" He says as he charges up an attack.

"I would love to, but you hurt Erza. For years, she wore armor to protect herself from being hurt again, she distances herself from everyone. All because of you. Because of you I had to see her cry again. Erza should never cry! And I was wrong... you're not the only family left. I have Erza. I have Fairy Tail." I tell him.

He says nothing and shoots an attack at me. It's like shadows with red printings on them. I stick my hand out, palm towards the shadows, and blast them with yellow light. "I'm going to kill that darkness within you. I know I can still save you. My light will overcome that darkness." I tell him.

I run over to him, ready to hit him, but he grabs my fist, throwing me aside. I run back up to him and while I make my way to him, I bend down quickly to pick up the sword he dropped. He throws a purple beam of light at me and I dodge, but he also creates a hole in the place.

"Destroying the place you worked so hard on?! What's the point?!" I ask him.

"Just a pillar or two. No harm in that." He says. I don't notice until I feel something underneath my feet. I look down to see Jellal's shadow like magic, grabbing onto me. I try escaping, but I can't it traps me into a bubble.

I try wiggling around and even try slashing it with my sword. Nothing happened. I can't let this happen. Images of my old friends and Fairy Tail come to my head. Erza. I have to protect her. I concentrate and I set my fist out, leaving out my index and middle finger, a tiny circle of light appearing at the tips. I slash it in an X form and it cuts through the attack.

I hold my sword tight as I escape Jellal's bubble. "I'm not losing. Last time we fought, Jellal, it was over a remote. Remember? When we were happy and free. We never settled that fight, so I'm settling it now." I charge at him and slash my sword, sending him flying back. As he's on the floor, I have my sword pointed at his throat.

"What's the goal here? The R-System is not completed. You're lacking magic energy." I tell him.

He smirks, "Your sacrifice would be enough magic energy. I researched your magic you hold more power than any wizard alive combined. Except Zeref."

"Although that is correct, it wouldn't be enough. It'll require more." I state.

He dodges what I say and tells me, "Three more minutes."

"It makes me wonder why you haven't left this tower yet. You seem unfazed by it being destroyed. If the Etherion does blast in 3 minutes then it's enough time to tell me what you're actually up to." I say and step on his arm, making sure he doesn't leave my grasp.

"I have no control over my body. I have been possessed by Zeref. A mere puppet he's manipulated to become flesh again." He tells me. "I wasn't able to save myself and none of my closest friends were there to save me. I realised that there is no Heaven and freedom does not exist. All of creation was finished before it even began."

Jellal continues explaining more and then he finishes with, "Finish me. Isn't that what you came here for?" I stare at him blankly. I don't want to kill Jellal. I can't do that. I slowly remove my foot that was stepping on his arm and I throw the sword aside.

The place starts shaking and I fall onto my knees beside Jellal. "I can't do that, Jellal. The etherion will blast in a minute and that'll wipe us both out. It's easier. In the end, you were one of Zeref's victims?"

"It's my own fault. I let my weakness get the best of me." He says as he sits up. I smile at him and jump onto him, wrapping my arms around him.

"I'm sorry I couldn't save you." I cry. He slowly and hesitantly wraps his arms around me. I hug him tighter as the place shakes more and the light blinds me.
