Chapter 37: Bye Bye Edolas

"This is for the best." Y/n tells Lily, who's still unsure about her and Jellal's place. "I too want everlasting magic. We all do. The people fight because of magic power. So eliminating all magic power from this world shall restore peace."

I stop as bright yellow mists fly into the sky. The guards panic as their weapons stop working. Same with the Fairy Tail members. Their magic was fading. The guards drop their items and run.

"We did it!" Gray shouts and the Fairy Tail members. They're the opposite of happy though. They're worried about their magic.

"Everything alright!" Lucy shouts. Edolas Lucy runs up to our Lucy and gets in her face. She says, "Yeah, right! This world's magic power is disappearing! All of it! What's gonna happen to our wizard guild?!"

"I-I can't believe you actually did it!" Lily says.

"All the citizens are in a state of confusion. Not many people can quickly adapt to a transforming world." Jellal says. "That's precisely why a new leader is needed. A new ruler for a new world. A new ruler who can gather anxious, frightened people and guide them all to happiness."

"I see. And that ruler? It's you?" Lily asks Jellal.

"No, not I." Jellal says and he looks at his little sister, "You."

I had run towards the city with everyone else. I see tons of panic around the city. A world without magic. I can't even imagine that. I even see Natsu and Mystogan fighting. "What's going on?" I ask my Edolas self as she watches the scene from beside me. "I don't know. Jellal said I was to rule Edolas, but I don't think I'm fit to."

"Did he?" I ask and she nods. She then says, "Look at him. Fighting the pink head for this kingdom. He's brave. He fights for what he believes in. I-I don't have his strength." I look ahead at the fight. The two give each other one final punch in the face. Natsu collapses and Mystogan stays standing. The crowd around erupts into cheers.

"I can't believe it's all over. The magic. Everything." Me says.

I look at her and say, "A life without magic. I couldn't imagine that myself. I don't want to imagine."

"We'll be fine. It's just a huge change. I don't know how I'm supposed to help everyone adapt." She says.

"Any advice before you go?" Edolas me asks.

"If there's just one piece of advice I can give you, it's this, change...We don't like it, we fear it. But we can't stop it from coming. We either adapt to change, or we get left behind. It hurts to grow. But here's the truth: Sometimes, the more things change, the more they stay the same. And sometimes, oh, sometimes, change is good. Sometimes, change is... everything."

Edolas me smiles and we hug.I pull away and notice my body starts to glow. "What's happening?" I ask her.

"The reverse Anima is expunging all magic power from Edolas. Everyone with internal magic power is being pulled into Earth Land." She explains. My body then starts floating up.

"Bye Earth Land me!" Edolas me shouts as I'm up high in the sky with Gray, Lucy, Happy, Carla, and Natsu at my sides. As Fairy Tail continues to panic about magic, Gray says, "Is magic power what makes your guild a guild?" Gray asks them. "As long as you have friends, you have a guild!"

"Take care!" I shout back at everyone. I look at Mystogan as we're up and see both my Edolas self and him embrace. I smile at the two. Mystogan smiles back at me and I wave goodbye.

Y/n looks down as she stands at the top of a ruined building, looking down at her citizens. She then looks at her brother who is standing at the side. She hears whispering among the citizens wondering is she was to become the new ruler of Edolas.

Change...We don't like it, we fear it. But we can't stop it from coming.

Y/n smiles at him before smiling down at the crowd. "I am here to announce that I will be stepping down from my royal duties. Instead, I have assigned a new ruler. One that will lead us to a beautiful tomorrow with no magic. One that will help us adapt to this new future. One that will create an even better Edolas. So, the new ruler of Edolas... Jellal Fernandes." She says. Jellal is stunned and the crowd cheers and goes wild. Y/n motions over for Jellal to walk over and he does so.

We either adapt to change, or we get left behind. It hurts to grow.

The crowd cheers loud and Y/n steps to the side. Jella stares down the ground before lifting his staff. The crowd cheers.

But here's the truth: Sometimes, the more things change, the more they stay the same.

"I have defeated the Dark King Dragneel! Even without magic power, we humans can survive!"

And sometimes, oh, sometimes, change is good.

Y/n claps along with the citizens for her brother.
