Chapter 52 ● Distraction ○

Ever since Darren got back the control he has over my mind I've been able to sense Calum's presence whether it be near or far. At this moment he's really close and I'm afraid that Dare is gonna mess with his head again; so I'm causing a distraction so he won't go back to trying to get control of his mind again. Calum's only been back from wherever he went for less than a day and I don't want him to have to go through Darren's annoying 'games' when he just returned. Valley thinks to herself.

I'm so tired after the flight back I could sleep for a year. I'm obviously not going to do that and that's just an exaggeration but I am gonna try and get as much rest as I can. After we were dropped back to each of our houses I went straight to my bed and I've been in since. So far no sign of Darren and I'm glad, I would have expected him to try controlling my mind by now but maybe he's too busy doing something else? Calum thinks to himself.

Valley and Darren sit at a table at a restaurant called Eatalicious. They ordered some food and drinks and it arrived. "Why did we have to come all the way to this place it's like a 5 hour drive away from our nearest town?" Darren asks Valley taking a sip of his drink soon after he asks that. "We don't know any of these people and we never see them around all the time so I thought it'll be easier to find someone here" she replies to him. "But this is way too far away from our nearest town" he complains in reply back to her. "Stop complaining the people here seem fun" she responds to him. "Nope they seem boring" he responds back to her.

Cade picks up his phone and calls Daphne. "Hey Daph" he greets her though the phone. "Hi Cade" she greets him back. "I think we should have kept an eye on Valley" he tells her. "Why is that?" She questions him. "She's up to something; think about it she suddenly left our team; she helping Dare now?" He answers her. "I don't know, maybe" she replies to him. "Where do you think Valley is right now?" He asks her. "I don't know but we'll find out" she replies to him.

"They're not boring; look at that girl over there she's literally wearing a hat with a cat ear hairband on top" Valley tells Darren gesturing to a lady sitting at a table with her friend a few tables away from theirs. "And she looks ridiculous" he replies to her. "Doesn't seem like she cares about people like you and your invalid opinions on her style" she replies to him. "She looks like she belongs to a circus though" he replies to her. "Maybe she is from the circus, you never know, she still seems like a cool person though" she replies shrugging her shoulders a bit for the first part of her reply.

"I'm gonna call Dare" Cade tells Daphne. "Okay, good idea" she replies to him. He cuts the call with Daphne and calls his brother.

"Hey Dare" Cade greets his brother through the phone. "Hello Cade" he greets back through the phone. "How's your game going?" He questions. "You don't even want to know" he replies, you could hear the distaste in his voice. "That bad, huh?" He replies to his brother casually. "You're up to something, aren't you?" He asks his brother in a suspicious tone. "Maybe, you hear from Valley recently?" He replies to him and asks him a question back curiousity visable in the tone of his voice. "Yep, I'm with her right now actually" he replies slapping his hand over his mouth and then grunts. "I wasn't supposed to tell you that!" He adds the annoyance is clearly visable in his tone. "Well it's a shame you can't take it back, right?" He replies to his younger brother in a mocking tone. "Ugh! I hate you so much! This coversation is officially over!" He shouts irritated and hangs up on his elder brother.

Cade then calls Daphne back. "Daph! I managed to get some info out of him!" He tells her though the phone excitedly. "Ooh! Please do share!" She replies sharing his excited tone. "He told me that he's currently with Valley and the best part is he accidentally let it slip!" He tells her his excitement still there. "Interesting, I wonder what they're doing together" she replies to him. "I'm wondering the same thing" he replies back.

"Where'd you go?" Valley asks Darren. "I got a call from Cade and decided I wouldn't bore everyone around us with our boring brotherly conversation" he replies to her in a jokey tone. "Oh okay, I think I've found your next victim!" She replies enthusiastically. "Oh really?! And who might this lucky person be?" He replies sarcastically. She points to a guy near the bar area who looks awfully drunk. "Him? He looks like he already has monsters in his head he's trying to silence" Darren replies to her. "Well, he's certainly more entertaining than me and he seems like the type to enjoy you messing with his head" she replies to him in a considering tone. "I agree he is more entertaining than you, but the thing is I prefer it when people absolutely hate my games" he replies to her. "Oh, and you wouldn't want something different for a change?" She asks him. "Nope, I'm not a fan of change" he replies to her. "Is that why you stuck with playing your games with me for so long?" She questions him curiously. "Yes, I suppose it is" he answers her.

"How are we going to find out though?" Daphne questions Cade. "I don't know, I think you should do some digging" he replies to her. "I'll do what I can" she replies to him.

"What about that guy?" Valley asks him gesturing to a guy that looks so bored of his friend's blabbering. "I don't think he's good enough, why the distraction anyway Valley?" He replies and asks her a question. "I don't know what you're talking about!" she replies faking confusion. He lifts up her face to his so she's looking him in the eyes. "Would you mind repeating that in a more believable manner?" He asks her. "I-i do-don't kn-ow what you-'re t-talking about" she replies stuttering with fear. "I thought so" he replies, he then steals some information from her mind. "Oh! Calum's back!" He tells her exclaiming it excitedly.
